1st CEL today

'04 MT, 15,000 miles. Romped on the gas in 3rd, heard the beep, shifted to 4th, saw a flashing CEL shortly thereafter. Slowed to 50 MPH, CEL went out after 20 seconds or so. Temp and oil pressure gauges normal. Pulled over, checked under hood; no leaks, no smells, fluids good. So, tried a full throttle second gear and the engine pulled well until about 5-6k RPM and then it felt like ignition was turned off. Let off on the throttle, shifted to 3rd and then 4th and engine ran fine in lower RPM range. Idle normal. Gauges still reading normal. CEL now on solid; no flashing like before. Time to go to dealer/service.

Manual says this can be loose gas cap (checked, it's ok), electrical problem or emissions problem. Guess I'll find out after dealer pulls the code. Still in warranty, so I guess I won't get too twirled at this point. Other than RPM limit, engine sounds normal, idles and runs great. Weird stuff. Perhaps the catalytic converter went south. Who knows. First time my baby has up-chucked :-(

Flashing CEL at high RPM is usually a misfire
But only 15K miles on a 2004??? WTF?

Ok, 15,340. Round trip to work is 4 miles. Any extra mileage is fun driving on weekends, which in this case, caused the CEL to wink at me. LOL!
