Hi guys, so I normally fill up when I see the fuel light come on. This time it came on when I was 30 miles from a Costco gas station and decided to chance it (averaging 16/17 mpg). I had read that you are normally ok until the needle goes halfway on the “E” per what I read on the forum. My question is - how low does the needle go? Also, I calculated that I had +/ - 1.64 gallons left in the car as the pump stopped at 14.26 gallons when I filled up.
*Don't run the car with fuel light on* I installed a new fuel pump a few weeks back due to having an issue that the forum suggested a new pump was the remedy. My understanding is that the fuel pump is recommended to be changed every 100k on the rx8 and I am at 105k. Although it was time to change it, running the car with the e-light on the regular probably shortened the life of the pump. Only reason for doing this on the regular was because I put in a 8oz bottle of premix when doing a full fill up of the gas tank. Since installing the pump; I will measure premix for either a 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank. Just wanted to share this info in case anyone else is doing the same mistake I was doing.
