and what i dont understand is the exhaust pipes. cops dont pull over bikers but pull over cars for that..

They don't typically pull over domestic vehicles either.

1. RP supercat - $400
2. BHR Nitrous - $700
3. Cobb access port - $600
4. cat back of choice - $500

Hmm, for 2K there's really nothing you can do that will make a dramatic difference, but you can get some small gains.

Probably best you can do power wise for that is to get an InterceptorX and have Scott or another really good Microtech tuner tune it. He can get 20 more whp out of a 4-port AT with that. Considering I dynoed at 140 whp on a mustang dyno (so I'm guessing I'd be between 150 and 160 on a dynojet, i forget what the usual difference is exactly), 20 whp is a pretty good percentage increase for these cars. You can pick up used ones pretty cheap now.

Another nice thing about the IntX option is you will need some sort of engine management if you want to go FI in the future.

You can also go with the Cobb Accessport, but I don't think anyone has posted any sort of NA gains yet with that. If you want to wait until some more research and dynos are done, then you can compare the power gains of the AP to the IntX. One additional advantage of the AP is you can control the oil metering pump, which would allow you to inject more oil into the combustion chamber, possibly increasing engine longevity.

I also have had decent performance gains with switching to the 4.77 rear gear. Not dramatic gains, but noticeable. You'll probably spend between 1.5 and 2K for that once you figure in all the building and shipping costs. If you are interested in that, talk to Paul at Mazmart about doing a core swap.

I noticed some mild performance gains with the Mazmart water pump. Very cheap and effective mod. Just over a couple hundred bucks. Gives you a little bit of extra acceleration and provides better engine cooling.

If you go with the IntX (you won't need this with the AP, you can use that to set the cooling fan operation), and you live and a hot climate or track the car, I'd suggest the Mazsport cooling fan mod as well.

If you are concerned about cooling (again, if you live in a hot climate or track the car), you could also look at a second oil cooler. You can get kits with new ones and all the lines you need from Mazmart, or you can watch the for sale threads for parts cars. I bought a used one that I hope to get help installing soon. My oil temps are fine here in the midwest for daily driving, but they get a bit high on warm track days.

If you are looking at doing something with an exhaust, I would say look at high flow cats first. They seem to give more gains that cat-back exhausts. I would think that the RP Supercat with a stock exhaust would give some small gain and a really nice sound.

Some people seem to be reporting seat of the pants gains with the Mazsport ignition upgrade, but I haven't talked to any 4-port owners that have it. Talk to Mazsport about that one. I think they showed dyno gains on a 6-port, but not sure if they have dynoed a 4-port. I would love to see a dyno for that.

I've also decided to join the premixing bandwagon. I use Idemitsu, but you can search the forums for all the different options that people use and decide what is best for you. What made the decision for me is that Paul and Rick at Mazmart suggested it is a good thing to do, especially for the ATs which tend to spend more time at lower RPMS (thus injecting less oil with the OMP). I do about 4oz to a 10 gallon fill up.

So for under 2K right now (assuming you don't want to wait on more results for the AP) I'd say get a used IntX (can probably get the unit for 600 bucks or so now), a RP Supercat, a Mazmart water pump, a Mazsport cooling fan mod, and a good tune from Mazsport or another good microtech rotary tuner. (Oh, and a case of Idemitsu). Make sure as part of the tune they fill in the values for boost - that way you should have a good NA tune and perhaps a decent base map for FI if you go that route. At least I think they could tune you optimally for NA as well as some base map values for FI, but I'm not sure. If you have money left over after that, then talk to Scott at Mazsport about the ignition upgrade to see if it would be worth it for you.

If you really don't plan on ever going FI, I'd say look at the 4.77 gear next. But if you plan to go FI, the cost/benefit is probably not worth it. You will still enjoy the gains of it, but I'm guessing the cost to acceleration ratio is a lot better if you put that money towards a better/more powerful FI solution, rather than a cheap FI solution with the 4.77 gear.

Racing Beat is supposed to be coming out with some headers soon. Not sure what kind of gains those are going to have. This site has headers available that are recommended by Eric Meyer (a good guy that races RX-8s in Koni Challenge and NASA): http://www.petesspeedandfab.com/Home.html. I believe they require removal of the stock air pump. Here is a thread where they discuss it: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...highlight=eric

Where do you live? That might help us send you in the direction of a good tuner.

I should say no one has posted NA gains on the 4-port with the AP that I know of.

And if you think you want to do the headers, I'd say do that before you do the tune. That way the tune can be optimized for your exhaust.

NP, that's what we are here for, to help each other out.

Didn't someone mention a good rotary place in Ohio? Maybe earlier in this thread, but maybe not.

By the way, do you have any intentions to track your car? If that is the case, I'd put a set of decent swaybars first on your list.

If I'm reading this post right, it looks like this car (must be a 6-port MT) made 180 whp with the stock ignition and 191 with the Mazsport ignition upgrade: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...8&postcount=62

Yeah, I realize you are part of the 4AT brotherhood I was just saying that it was a 6-port so you'd know that we don't know what gains for sure it is making on a 4-port. I will actually post a question about it to the mazsport ignition thread.

Just remember you don't have to be in any hurry to do mods. Take your time to do your research. Half the fun of this for newbies like us is learning more about cars, mods, parts, etc. Don't just take what I or any other person says as gospel. You've got to figure out what you think is right for you.

what you should do is trade in the AT and get a MT...
that's would be the easiest way to get more power.

That is correct, but I assume he bought the AT for a reason.

Since this thread has been resurrected, I'll add another possible suggestion to my list. With all the cooling mods I have installed, my coolant temps are still a bit high at the track. Last time at the track I was in the 230s with a 60/40 water to coolant mix.

I've ordered the BHR radiator as hopefully a solution to this problem. Others seem to be reporting great results with it. I'm not sure if anyone has specific before and after track data on the 4AT with it, but considering all the positive comments I expect good results with it. If it can drop me 10 to 20 degrees I'll call it successful for my case.

I should also say that my oil temps were well under control with the second oil cooler. If you track your AT I'd highly recommend it. Either look for a used setup from a parts car, or if you prefer new talk to Paul at Mazmart. He will hook you up with a real nice setup. With the second oil cooler, my oil temps went from the 240s on the track down to around 210.

And what you should do is go back to the MT threads or try reading the sticky on this thread. People whom elect to purchase an AT do not need your smart *** remark thank you.
