Pics or...............................................i t didn't happen.

tofu_box 11-04-2010 10:56 PM

well have a look @ my car on the tow truck, didnt have enough time doing my mad skids to get my phone out, and being the responsible soul i am, i immediately alerted the council. They have already came and put sand and cleaned up the oil spill.

Anyways turned out my transmission didnt blow. But my ATF Cooler hoses blew straight off the BHR Radiator, causing massive spill. My first gear disengaged due to insufficient oil, but had enough in reverse to get my car in position for the tow truck.

Word of caution to AT people that get the BHR radiator, do NOT use the factor clamps that hold the AT hoses to the ATF Cooler, they apparently are NOT strong enough. Get better clamps.

Phew Glad that is over, i can get some sleep now, havnt slept in past 30 hour due to studying/working/mechanics >.<

Anyways summer has hit

A problem has me stumped, As the car gets hot, with the A/C on, i get wild idle search between 500rpm - 1.2k rpm.

So a straight forward fix was to raise the idle rpm when "hot"

However after this we have a interesting situation where the car just plain stalls.

Does anyone with S/C have any experience with this?

I get the "wild idle" when it's over 110 degrees F. ambient and the 8 is very hot. I never touch my tune or idle and leave it to MM to correct. He fixes it but then in winter (colder weather) it acts up in a different way. I have been thinking of asking MM to set up a summer tune and winter tune on my Cobb. Sorry I can't be more help but tunning is something I avoid like the plague.

I have had the hunting ldle with a few different MAF/intake configurations. some raising the idle seemed to helped but it didn't seem like an actual fix. if you have screens in the intake removing them may help or may make it worse. have you got a log of the MAF at idle?

tofu_box 11-22-2010 06:32 PM

Hey my current intake has no screens at the moment, i dont believe i have the log of the MAF at idle as of yet. I gotta hunt down my screen though :(.

But the idle hunt only happens during A/C moments

Rote8 11-23-2010 07:38 AM

There are separate A/F and timing tables, that activate if the A/C is on, your tuner should have no problems correcting this.
You could also wait a few days for the ECU to learn the correct idle settings of your current tune, if the tune is close.

Well still havnt had time to figure out the AC, But it is storming here during summer so go figures who needs AC!

Anyways update

A few more parts has just arrived.

Mazmart Thermostat & Waterpump, AEM Intake (ready to be modified), some new belts, and BHR Cat.

The intercooler is soon to be ready for trial fitment and final wielding.

In the process of securing a 4.77 ring & pinion set which will be installed by Rohan at Xtreme Rotary!

Once that is all done, will install the higher boost pulley, should see around 12 psi of boost.

.

hmmm- it's normal to go the other way after fitting FI .....

tofu_box 12-14-2010 07:53 PM

not with the auto, if you refer to my dyno graph, it is very similar to stock AT graph considering it is a centrifugal supercharger, still nothing down low, if i had twin screw or turbo it wouldnt have mattered.

Top speed is of no issue for me, Victoria Australia is the home of Nazi traffic laws.

Now i went on an cruise recently where NA manual rx8 were still out accelerating me until i hit 2nd gear. In terms of HP, i have more, it is where the gearing is at.

Now this may be stupid, but i was mucking around with GT5, and looked at the gear ratios, they were realistic values of a stock rx8, i threw in a 4.77 final drive ratio, and it made a ton of a difference, i dont see why not?

I had a chat to Phil8 about this aswell, he didnt need it due to twin screw design of down low, but i just dont have that, i hit peak boost at around 7k rpm, which is quite high as you can imagine, and they only way for me to bring the powerband abit lower is to change the gearing.

Brettus 12-14-2010 07:58 PM

I still think you will regret that change for practicality reasons . I would leave it as is.
You are going from 4.1 to 4.77 which is %14 in the wrong direction :dunno:

tofu_box 12-14-2010 09:06 PM

4.3 atm - 4.77

my mistake - 10% then

Wait till you get the higher psi pulley on then see how you feel .

tofu_box 12-14-2010 09:17 PM

Like i understand if i had turbo, which is a much more aggressive FI option, that this will be not as beneficial, since max boost comes on in 3-4k rpm ranges.

It is just that centrifugal supercharger work off engine RPM, so creating specific boost at specific rpm, which leads to high top end, nothing low end. Therefore you can probably imagine the curve.

By changing the final drive, we can bring some of that high end towards medium, in turn creating better response.

Thats my 2c anyways, you will never know unless you try. Then when this is all good and done, i'll be looking at a high stall torque converter, to add the extra bit of fun :D

Yes I understand what you are saying . The new pulley will bring a little more power in earlier for you .
But I think the disadvantages will outweigh the small advantage you will get in a drag situation .

tofu_box 12-14-2010 11:33 PM

What disadvantages will you be referring to? higher mpg? or is there others?

Kane 12-14-2010 11:43 PM

MPG, and Higher RPM at cruise which = more wear and tear on engine.

Sneak Preview of new intake system.

4.77 final drive is getting put in atm.
Mazmart Thermo + Water pump are in
New belts from gates are in
BHR midpipe wielded together and put on

Doing a preliminary dyno with same boost crank pulley soon!

socompro 01-22-2011 09:05 AM

you can put a turbo kit in a automatic?

09Factor 01-22-2011 09:25 AM

Nope.:icon_bs:

j/k Read my sig.

socompro 01-22-2011 10:35 AM

oh so you cant put a turbo in a auto? how did you do yours?

Jedi54 01-22-2011 11:02 AM

socompro: 09Factor was only joking.
you ABSOLUTELY can put a turbo in an automatic, he was the first one to do it. click where it says "my NEW custom turbo install...." in his post to see his thread on it.

ShellDude 01-22-2011 11:30 AM

turbo in an auto?!?!?!? seriously!?!?!?!?! c'mon you're pulling my leg :)

Jedi54 01-22-2011 11:31 AM

socompro 01-22-2011 12:40 PM

lol nice how much horsepower does it gain and is it better then a supercharger? im deciding one putting on in my 8
