How do you know if you have a 4 or 6 port?

Newbie here and just wondering how you know if you have a 4 port or 6 port auto?

Mines an 04 with the paddle shifters but have no idea on the 4 or 6 or what the difference is between them?

mmGilbert is correct.

2004 - 2005 US models = 4 port
2006+ = 6 port

(that of course only applies to the A/T's)

You have a 4-port automatic with 1 oil cooler; but you have more ft./lbs. of torque than most people with stock manual 6spd sport rx8's.

To answer the latter half of your question, the difference is the intake ports. The exhaust ports (from what I understand) are the same as the 6-port. Other parties, please feel free to verify/correct.

Thanks guys. Now that you say it I remember thinking it was weird that it only had one oil cooler on it but the 4 port issue answers that question I guess.

No this wasnt a joke I didnt know how to tell and to be honest I did not spend anytime trying to find the answer. I figured it would be easier to start a thread. Besides at least this way you get people leaving some feedback on differences and etc..

All US market manual transmission cars were originally sold with six port engines. Some people have inadvertently purchased used cars with a four port JDM engine. 99.9% of the time you have a six port.

These photos can help

Six port, extra air intakes are circled

Four port

No extra air intakes
