'05 Grand Touring AT, 102,000 mi. Factory recall engine replacement @47,000 & PCM reflashes ,added a Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intake & Cat Back which seemed to make the 4 spd shift more positively as well as noticeable power improvement. Routine periodic PM . A surprisingly inexpensive & practical sports car that doubles as a great long distance touring car. Use the Cruise Control @ 70-75 mphl on the interstate and see 22-24 mpg ( the latter on long flat stretches out west ). Not economy car mileage, but hell, it's not an economy car!

Back from the dead, I just pulled my 2005 a/t motor at 111,138 miles. I'd say the last 10k or so were on life support, as it rarely started without 4 or 5 de-flood attempts or a few CC's of oil in the LIM.

Not terrible.

DMaverickRX8 05-30-2013 06:56 PM

181,000 miles 3 engines. 3rd engine currently has 38xxx on her and seems to be running fantastic. I need to get on board with premixing.

04 Auto - high milage

I have an 04 automatic; the first engine went at 90K and was replaced under Mazda's warranty. The new engine is at 131K and runs beautifully and the original transmission still shifts relatively smoothly https://www.rx8club.com/C:\Users\dhunt\Pictures (knock on wood) I'm getting just over 18 miles per gallon and I run this engine hard!

Party on,

04 nordic green AT at 97500, still running like new. Running 5w-30 royal purple year round. just changed the coils, thinking about tokico d-specs and s techs.

I purchased my 04/AT a year ago. Currently at 75400 miles. Not sure if the engine ever been replaced. What is the best way to verify if the motor ever been replaced?

Inquire at your local dealer or maybe message RIWWP your vin and he may be able to tell you.

good deal. Thanks for the advice

^ All engine replacement warranties have to go through Mazda USA HQ (I assume you are in the US). To find out any warranty related work, or recalls, you can contact them with your VIN -> HERE

That's impressive!

RX8ualiv 08-31-2015 04:36 AM

working on a friend's 04 RX8 automatic. She has 96702 on hers. I have had to replace all sorts of stuff on it since her husband neglected it and it hasn't run for almost 4 years. I did a recall check at the dealership and found it had one engine replacement back in 2004, but there was still an engine lack of power recall that was in "to be determined" status. starts hard and getting a P0610 code, but runs good when it starts. more info on the way.

I've got an 04 that's nearing the 93k mark and it still has a lot of pep to it. I think the real reason of starting this thread is to show the auto can hit past the 100k mark and beyond just like any other.

I got to almost 170k before my engine fried because a shop was using synthetic and for several oil changes i was rotating synthetic and non (going to mazda or this shop) and I didnt notice they were screwing me on oil 😅 was a kid and the final verdict on all decisions for the car was my dad.. couldnt even make him believe I needed to redline it every time it's out. took years before he finally believed me

You got phenomenal mileage outta that car, and synthetic didn't kill it. If you never premixed gas even more so. Two reasons to drive hard for a few minutes is the burn carbon out thing, and get the omp flowing more oil to seals.

JZBolt 08-28-2019 02:13 PM

2005 6 speed, just replaced 1st engine at 134,500. But every time I drive it I drive like I stole it.

Matt Crouch 01-30-2020 05:53 PM

~170k on origional engine and it only failed on me because the title was in my father's name and he refused to let me.change the oil myself. said be had a shop he trusted and insisted I go to them. turns out they were putting the wrong weight and synthetic blend. alternating between mazda dealership oil changes and that shop... well it didnt go well.

Dud1f3r 02-05-2020 09:57 AM

169k on my AT (lets hope it doesn't stay AT for long ;]) but shes not liking it.
