Carbon Buildup and CATs Revisited

I was reading some old threads on potential carbon build up with suggestions of driving it 6K plus every second day to fight this. Any feedback/comments on whether this has helped over the long term?

Second, some replies referred to poor or deficient CATS - was this a pretty widespread issue?

Finally, has any AT owner gone with a "street legal" [is there such a thing?] aftermarket CAT and noticed an improvement in either performance or fuel economy? If so, which one(s) would are recommended? I'm installing a Greddy SP2 catback with the K&N Short Ram Typhoon in within a few weeks. Cheers
