SR Motorsports has a good package to start off. check out their website (forgot the link).

i have an auto but it is for my wife. i already did an intake and exhaust on it and i will probably swap to a high flow cat mid pipe. i dont plan on making this a high performance rocket or anything, just something that is fun from time to time. i plan on take it to an autocross track for fun.

Well--so far Re-Amemiya (Sp?) has a turbo kit available in Japan that should be ready for export soon that boost hp to 260+HP or so. Beyond that--don't waste your time with an intake system, get an exhaust for looks/sound. Me personally, I'm just going to trade mine in after I finish Dental school or keep it and turbocharge it. I'm not really in a rush to void my warranty anyway.

The intake, cat, pullies & exhuast combo will net you very little. And this from a guy who has that stuff. But the sound from the Racing Beat exhuast is definitely worth it. Your best bet is to get a Can Zoomer unit and tune it, or wait for the turbo/supercharger options to come out.

To give you an idea how little one can get a CZ for:

I just bought a brand new CZ 1.1 from group buy #2 for $290.

A brand new canscan for $120.

(Shipping included in both of the above figures)

I couldn't find anyone to sell me a data cable to program the CZ with, so I had to buy it from canzoomer direct, that cost me about $90 including 2 day shipping

Has anybody tuned the CZ unit for the auto yet? and if so what kind of gains could you expect?

I would assume the same kinds of gain would be had with the auto as manual. Somewhere in the range of 20-30 hp if tuned properly. Right now, that makes the CZ the most cost effective method of adding power.

what about the SR Motorsports intake? supposibly that is a good intake. whether u do an intake swap or not, an aftermarket intake can help your exhaust get louder my stock exhaust got a bit louder after doing the K&N kit. then i did my exhaust and went from there. did it mainly for sound and style. the K&N kit gave my engine some bling bling to look at.

All intakes have shown about 2-3 hp MAX. The SR Motorsports stuff is good, but the notion that intake, pulley, hi-flow cat can net you 30 hp, or midpipe & exhaust on top of those will give you 40 hp is pure fiction. For $2K, you are way better off buying a CZ unit for $600-$700 and spending some money tuning it. Throw in the exhaust to make it sound better, and maybe the Racing Beat air intake when it comes out in a few months and that is probably the best way to spend $2K on hp increases for this car. The SR Motorsports intake is about 1 or 2 lbs. lighter, but as Chuck Huang (Rotary Extreme) commented it is very similar to a stock intake, and won't give any measuable hp increases.

A canzoomer unit will function equally for a automatic car, as it would for a manual car.

there aren't going to be any simple bolt ons that will help an auto other than the CZ if it can be used with an auto. Your best bet is to start saving for a FI kit

That'll be great--if you make some headway with the CZ unit you'll be the auto owners hero--and you should talk canzoomer into getting you some royalties. :p

DreRX8:

Well I'm not promising anything for us auto owners, but I know I will make many many auto owners happy if I can tune my 8 successfully. All I need to get is the CanScan unit from Harrison R&D and I'll be good to go. We are looking to do some tuning in the next few weeks. I will keep everyone posted as to our results. Keep your fingers and toes crossed! :D
