auto tranny in manual mode went crazy

I got on it in first gear while in manual mode today and my rpms just started fluctuating up and down for 3-4 seconds. I also notice that if I hold the rpms til around 7k rpm then shift, it will hold the rpms steady for a few extra seconds. This is on a 5700 mile 05 model. Anyone experience similar things? Thanks.

Usualy 1st to 2nd at times there is a few second delay in the shifting in the triptronic mode. I believe its making sure its safe to shift, one lesson I've learned is to not keep the pedal floored and then shift without letting off some pressure from the gas pedel. I've noticed there is some if not alot of hesitation/jerking if/when you do this. I have a 04 base model so I got the luvly crappy 4speed tranny.

i got something weird that happened to me too, a few times actually. on my way to PA, i was driving up this hill, and it downshifted automatically for me to like 2nd gear, rpms revved up, had the gas down, but it wasnt in gear plus i heard all this clanking noise. i was thinking my transmission slipped, or i was losing serious compression. anyone have similair problems?

I went 139km in 3rd shift, redline 8100rpm holding for 4 secs while I was testing it on the road. You know someone is pissing me off at that time. With luck I didn't blow the engine, I forgot to shift to 4th. Beep for 4 secs....

Btw, I got the AT 4 speed and I know the limit which is 184km.

Well this is odd.. in Triptronic or Sport mode I was in 1st gunned it on the highway coming out of a gas station and when it came time to shift I hit the paddle and it went to redline and stayed there, I was freaking out as the bastard kept on bouncing back and forth then I shifted again into 3rd. Finally something caught somewhere and the revs went back down. Was freaky as all hell ><!!!

That's basically what I had experienced in the past as well.

It will bounce off the rev limiter and rpm's will drop , but if you hold your foot down it will keep bounceing off the rev limiter. I found you must let off the throttle so the rpm's drop then it will shift. Seem's weird , but I find that this seems to be normal when at the redline.
I have owned two AT's, both '05's and they both seem to have the same patterns in shifting.
Now has anybody had the trans slip between second and third gears at above moderate to high accelleration? This occurs on occassion to me. It has done it in both AT's I have owned. Dealer can't seem to find anything wrong with it.

^By slip do you mean feels like its constantly shifting between 2nd and 3rd? if so then yeah I've experinced it but usualy when I press down at around 40-50% on the peddle. Its like the Tranny's pc isnt sure which gear I want to be in and constantly adjusts. Friggin' annoying when driving through town at/around 30-40mph (seems to happen around that speed all the time.).

I've had something like this happen. Occasionally when I give it a small amount of throttle, then go WOT (like turning at a light, then speeding up) the tranny doesn't seem to be able to shift up from 1st to 2nd. It's a pretty hard problem to recreate, and only happens rarely. But it sure pisses me off. Bouncing off the rev limiter = teh suck.

Thats it ! And I thought I was the only one who had this problem. I can get it to happen sometimes by staying in second gear for an extended period of time and then shifting into third. Spins RPM's up and then shifts.
Reminds me of an old Powerglide low on fluid.

got the 6speed AT,

anyone know if its necessarily 'bad' for the car when I bounce it off the rev limiter?
I mean...if the same 6 port engine is made to handle 9k rpms in a manual... the 7500 should be no big deal..
am i right?

sorry for the bump

I have my 6 speed auto set to redline at 8500 RPM with an AccessPort. I take it there pretty often, and it works just fine. I did get the TSB done where they upgraded my torque converter to the newer 2009 version. You should get that done too if you're still under warranty. It made the transmission feel so much better!

Tsb is a technical service bulliten (spelling on that?) anyways they are mainly for the dealerships to be aware of known issues they are not a recal and dealerships are not required to fix them unless they are about something that is under warrenty. Hope that helps

7500 is nothing, and won't do anything.

I have an'04 4AT with Cobb AP + MazdaManiac Custom Tune. Recently had him increase my redline from 8500 to 9000 RPM's. Phil8, who also has a 4AT has his set to 10,000 RPM's with Petite SC and stock tranny and his is running fine.

So yeah, no big deal.
