Yes, no, maybe, unlikely |

"as far as we know, there are no problems with our solid corner seals." I plan to tear my engine back down and replace the corner seals with OEM and follow up on this post. Hopefully we can clear up some of the questions with this topic. Let me know if you have had a similar experience or know what I may be doing wrong or right. |
That sounds about what I would expect to hear from Atkins. Lot's of variables here, but solid corner seals are absolutely pointless.
|
Makes sense. The only time I've seen the OEM seals fail was a set that cracked in half but that was because Someone assembly the engine with a way too tight clearance and then turbo it. But I agree, there really isn't a reason to change from OEM in most cases. I still have yet to tear it down and swap them out. Then I'll be back to show the results so hopefully more don't run into the same problem as I did.

Tell us more about your rebuild. Corner seals would not be the first thing that comes to mind with low compression.... Did you reuse, replace, or buy new rotor housings? what about the plates and every other seal that you replaced in that motor?

Rotors apex seals grove might be off spec

Any update? I'm about to replace my corner seals from atkins solids to oem soon. 80psi on all faces but its an 04 automatic rx8 . Once it reaches operated temp it dies on idle. I can drive it around the block very smoothly but once rpms drop it wants to die. And restart is a pain also, only 5 miles on rebuild. Plus auto so can't push start.
|
there’s no update; it’s still a really bad idea to not use the OE Renesis corner seals and springs
|
Oem corner seal for sure..
Its been a long time since i come here.
hey man, use oem corner seals. Make sure everything else is withing spec and you should be good.. in the rx7 community we also see a compression drop with those corner seals. |

Honestly if you haven't invested in anything and are looking to keep the engine oem I would highly suggest just getting a reman engine. Its around $4500 shipped for a built engine vs dealing with ordering all new seals, rotors, housings, seal kit, irons? and then potentially running into issues with the home build............Just like how I did. Definitely a good learning experience, at quite the cost. |
