Wingle's Turbo Install
well ive been putting it off for a while but now that the parade of parts has started to enter my front door i suppose it is about time.
I bought a used greddy turbo kit off ebay at a real good price in january and have been building up the money to buy lots of other stuff on my wishlist. Today the exhaust manifold and downpipe got back from the ceramic coater. I used custom concepts perfomance coatings in detroit, great fast service, and almost half the price as jet hot for the same 2000 degree coating. very personal. http://www.ccperformance.com/ is the link to their site, since they deserve the credit in my mind, but if thats breaking a rule its there to take down. All my stainless hoses a relative gave me got here along with odds and ends fittings to replace the old greddy stuff. Also recieved my oil restrictor and studs from ATP. Right now just waiting on BHR to get with me on new silicone couplers and another paycheck to buy my BOV mounting from ATP and my gauges. stay tuned ill add pictures in the morning! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00118.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00136.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00137.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00138.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00139.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00140.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00141.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00142.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00143.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00144.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/DSC00145.jpg |
Good for you! Wish you long lasting healthy engine :) lol.

lookin good man... subscribed
|
Looks good, I really like the coating on the pipes... I should do that while I'm waiting for my 3071R to show up. :P
|
yeah jethot quoted me at almost 400 bucks, CCperformance did it at 150 plus S&H. real nice guys, plus its always nice to support anything in my home state.
|
you seriously might as well try out bnr's upgrade...it's a great price and you may not even need to get the gt3071r
or get fluid's upgrade like I did...I love it. I'm pretty sure I can get close to gt3071r power with it...I just need upgraded injectors, more boost, water/meth and dyno tuning :) as it is at 9psi it's a beast |

well guys I know I have been quiet lately but I won't let anyone down. This install will happen! I lost my scholarship retroactively last semester so all my money went to paying back the school. Then after army training had to find a new summer job. As you all know jobs are hard to come by here in michigan but i lucked out a few weeks back so the cashflow is back.
So I figured I should christen my new paycheck with car parts. Attachment 279353 Attachment 279354 I figured that I should install the gauges tonight and tomorrow and get them 100% online before installing the turbo. Firstly this will give me "normal" readings so I can be more fimiliar with what I am looking at. Secondly I will know whatever data I am getting (or not getting) during tuneing will not just be a faulty gauge install but actuall fact. And lastly it will just look cool. |
sounds like a cunning plan :)
|
good idea. i need to do that too.

and is if god himself hath proclaimed it, thou shalt haveth a day off to install thou new parts.
Attachment 279146 got everything wired up, still need to hook up the EGT sensor though. Picking up the drill and tap kit from my grandfathers. |
bits and peices
So like back in january when i first bought the turbo I PMed Charles about getting some nice couplers for the kit. It only took him 5 months but he finally peiced together the kit for everyone...
In all seriousness my first package from BHR came and all my t-clamps and half of the couplers were inside. The other half is on its way. This marks the end of all the major parts collection. I have now ammassed: Turbo kit (Duh) Prosport gauges (AFR, EGT, Boost) lotek gauge pod Russel Performance AN oil lines (turbo feed and drain, along with fittings and adapters) Russel Performance fittings (replaces all of greddys crap elbows and adapters) Cermaic coating for exhaust components HKS BOV ATP BOV fittings New turbo studs ATP oil restrictor ATP vacume fitting for greddy wastegate fix Drilled and tapped all parts for sensors and fittings (EGT sensor and vaccume fitting) Various stickers (like 40whp worth) Samco Couplers with t-clamps So baisically I will be going to autozone to pick up some underbody heat sheilding, vaccume hose, check valve, along with thread sealant, anti-seize, and gasket sealant. Also grab all new fasenters from Fastenal since my used kit was far from complete. And then go to work this next week on the install. If I run into issues I am prepared to buy a recirc for the BOV and an intake kit if my MAF has issues with the stock setup. I have heard some people have problems and others dont so we will see. But now I am getting worried about the bits and peices. what about: cat to manifold gasket cat to manifold bolts header bolts any other bits and peices people ran into on their install. I guess I am just getting giddy. I have never been so excited to drive my 94 MX-3 for 2 weeks. |
maybe you should have! they were cheeper back then!
|
news flash, the second (and last) half of my turbo couplers arrived today! just have to get some time off and start diggin in!

haha brettus... how many time can you plug that on one thread!!! I love the BHR guys and what they have done for me. that being said I am pretty open minded to what kind of upgrade will come next. I think after this I am going to concentrate on a RX-7 I am looking at and just wait till the greddy fries. Ill worry about my decision then.
PS The RX7 is just going to be a resoration/daily driver. Just get some NA horses out of it but nothing to serious. Just in case any of you were concerned about my alliegences! |
are you going to run access port?
|
yes, I already own one
|
subscribed! ah i wish i had the knowledge/money haha

Im pretty much sealing every fitting with liquid teflon thread sealant. |
so I was sappose to start the install today before I have to drive to lansing for a bachlor party. Buttt.....
Oil Pressure Switch ..... so now I have to drive and buy a deep well socket and someone figure how to get a rachet in there. Oh well at least i know that others have been here before and suceeded. |
you should be fine with the liquid teflon
just make sure it's good and tight...that was my problem, didn't tighten it enough :banghead: |
wow this makes me want FI again....but to FI the 8 or buy an FD? or both? haha....good luck on the install....
|
i need to do this soon.
|
so i bought a 15/16 socket, oil pressure switch came out like a charm.
Put in all my AN fittings and feed lines. Im a little worried about leaks... i tried to tighten as much as possible but I didnt want to tourqe any of the aluminum fittings in half. as i hooked up the feed line to the T-fitting the whole assembly rotaed a little bit, so I hope that doesnt mean its a possible leak and the liquid teflon does its job. Im hopeing as soon as oil is pumped theough there it will compress the sealant on the threads. Oh well if it does leak at least I can get to that area without ripping the system apart. Just waiting on some welded fittings then I can get the pipeing underway. |
subbed ;) good luck on the install
|
dam 3 times how long does it take you?

no prob nuke! its cool to see all this discussion on my install after reading so many other before me for hours. Kinda surreal I am finally installing.
I was in the same boat you are. I bought the kit back in january thinking I would be ready by the time the snow thawed in march. and here I am 5 months later just getting started. I replaced all the couplers and clamps, oil lines are all stainless braided AN fittings (which took me forever to hook up tonight.... my own fault...) Got everything ceramic coated, Bov, all new high grade fasteners plus odds and ends. It definately takes more time and money but I do not regret it knowing the entire setup is going to be top of the line. As far as why I am up at 2am, I sped the last few hours mounting the manifold and turbo, hooking up all the oil feed lines, and reattaching the engine mount, should have pictures in the morning (or afternoon depending on when I wake up!!!) Now it gets ten times easier with all the pipeing! |
cool man. cant wait to see the progress.
|
intercooler is mounted, all the pipeing is in. All that is left is get my oil drain from the welder, air pump back in, midpipe, and figure out how to put the damn BOV on.
PROMISE to have pics tomorrow |
you should leave the air pump off and use a blocking plate on the downpipe.
which BOV do you have, HKS? i'm having trouble with mine too. can't figure out how to get the c-clip in. |
