thanks. would you know if anybody has anything cheaper?

Jedi54 04-18-2010 09:10 PM

greddy

gregs 04-18-2010 09:14 PM

what price range are you looking for? that may help point you in the rite direction..also are you looking for a top mount or low mount kit?

aw_automotive 04-19-2010 03:48 PM

I would like a top mount for easier access but i wouldnt mind a bottom mount. i was wanting in the price range of no more than about 800.

where you gonna get just a greddy manifold? afaik they never sold them apart from the rest of their kit, which means buying a new/used kit JUST for the manifold

gregs 04-19-2010 09:29 PM

you can get the greddy exhaust manifold separate and brand new, just takes forever

aw_automotive 04-19-2010 11:08 PM

do you just call greddy direct or do you have to ask a distributor?

BSchwemer 04-22-2010 01:49 PM

When I was looking, SFR had the cheapest manifold. They were still $900 or so minus the downpipe. If you order their downpipe it was like $1400 or $1500 total.

If you have any fab skill, making one really isnt all that hard. You can use mild steel or stainless. That's a "cheaper" alternative, but still expensive.

bose 04-22-2010 01:53 PM

Yeah, you can buy the manifold and down pipe for 1600 for Speed Force Racing. Or just look around until you get lucky like I did and find someone parting out a turbo car.

I do believe BHR/MM are working on something for the greddy kit. the greddy kit isnt to bad just gotta get it down its really simple. Granted you have the car jacked up porperly should take 2-3 hours to remove the manifold and turbo unit.

paulmasoner 04-22-2010 02:18 PM

yep, greddy manifold is easy also if you drop both motor mounts

05rx8mazda 04-22-2010 02:35 PM

^ One mount is good enough. gives you more than enough clearence.. just have to put the manifold bolted on before you drop the turbo on it.. while holding the turbo up in the engine cavity.
I have a phobia about something falling on me hehe =P reason as to why id like the motor hanging on one mount hhah

paulmasoner 04-22-2010 02:39 PM

lol, i sure its just fine with one. dont want a motor dropped on your head! but if something the size of a 3071 is going in there, dropping both mounts makes thing much easier - ask Kane;)

Kane 04-22-2010 02:44 PM

Yep, three bolts people.... three bolts and you can get enough room to mount everything super easy, and ensure it is tightened down properly.

Including the dreaded drain line of death.

That's what they make jack stands and some 2x4 cribbing for - no motor on head.

05rx8mazda 04-22-2010 02:52 PM

^^ if anyone knows thier stuff well its kane.

What with the drain line of death?

Kane 04-22-2010 02:54 PM

The stupid oil drain line / and sending line too sometimes.

You think they are tightened, then you run the car till fully warmed and they seep a bit... well with the MM off, you can just pop down there and fix them easy instead of having to ninja your hands in there. More of an issue with the 3071, but still why not make life easier if you can?

05rx8mazda 04-22-2010 03:05 PM

i thought i had a leak... it was dripping until i put a copper crush washer and it stopped. Still a bit of seep but nothing major major

Kane 04-22-2010 03:20 PM

I prefer no leak, as in no leak..... hehe

Style points, the motor mount thing was something me, Ray and the HI gang found out about in 2008, and I use it to this day, cause I like it.

what size housing are you aiming for fitting?

MazdaManiac 04-22-2010 03:53 PM

Its just a direct replacement for the GReddy.
You can fit anything in the GT30xx family (with the appropriate flanges and adapters).
I'll probably make a version that has the added 1/2" that the Garrets require on the inlet side like I add in the upgrade kits turbine inlet.

paulmasoner 04-22-2010 03:54 PM

nice. stronger than the greddy unit i hope. low-mount is back on the table.
