NC Transmission?

I am putting on a turbo kit and a few extra mods but with the numbers that the 8 will be making i am worried the transmission will not be able to handle the power. Does anyone have any knowledge or suggestions they can offer?

It's a hit and miss question. Search around regarding transmission (i.e. search "transmission problems").

Some people are running FI on stock transmission and have no problems. Other's have had their transmission crap out on stock cars. I believe the general consensus is that the RX-8's transmission isn't as good as it could be.

I can only speak for the 4port A/T. It has served me very well, put up with my obsession with gaining 300hp (with my 4port A/T) and really never complained.

It's the weak link but your alternatives require a lot of money and/or a good combination of fabrication skills.

the turbo is not whats going to break your transmission.

if the trans is going to break, it will do it naturally aspirated just fine. it really has more on how you use your transmission. i believe one of the turbo 3 rotors is driving around just fine on his stock trans. 650whp.

teamrx8 is on his 4th, he does a lot of autocrossing. personally, im on my 2nd and i occasionally drag race. 30-40 passes a year. we are both n/a.

the extra torque can be an issue if you crank the boost controller up with a good turbo, since a transmission swap is expensive you can try to make it live a lot longer by shifting gently and using a good\soft clutch and good lubricants.
You should tell us more about what turbo kit you're talking about as it may simply be a non-issue
I'm on my second transmission as well being NA but my car goes often to the track.

It is more appropriate "with the numbers that the 8 will be making" to worry first about popping the engine with a bad tune.

I broke my first tranny na, and have had my second one for 2 years with FI no problem.

This thread is about a transmission right? so caring about the engine is inappropriate. If you blow it your tranny will be safe until you change\rebuild your engine!

I am suggesting that while modifying the engine, you first pay attention to the engine.

I am making the tacit suggestion that the op sounds rather unsophisticated in such issues.

I am making a second suggestion that there is a much higher correlation between FI and popped motors than with FI and broken transmissions on the RX8.

I would agree that were your transmission broken, your engine is safe.

c'mon, can't you take a joke?
Tuning a FI engine is fundamental... and as usual it is cheaper to get it right the first time!

get yourself a good clutch, some redline, and a stainless steal clutch line, all of those will help, but it is like anything else more power means it will break sooner than it would have other wise. i know for a fact that shift lock drifting will destroy it, mine sounded like a grenade when off inside it. in the end it is all how you drive it
