Hey Rotarygod, boy are you wrong, the statement I made about which would be faster was the comparision between the greddy Turbo and the supposely Pettit Supercharger. at that point I said THE Turbo WOULD WIN... I wasn't even talking about the SSF/SSR Turbo so you see I'am not just for the SFR/SSR turbo...

I have been talking to a couple of guys in this forum( via PM) and have talked with them about their up and coming systems, So again I'am not just supporting SFR/SSR turbos..

And as far as no experience , maybe in Rotaries But I have built three street & Strip cars
1. 1963 chevy impala 327/dual quads turned 11.80's
2. 1969 Transam ( very rare car) 421sd motor turned 11.20's
3. 1999 Corvette Ls1 not really for strip but fast

Again my statement or my intent of my statement about the Pettit Versus Greddy was because the Pettit had 6psi boost that at about 6500 came down to 4 psi and the greddy was running around 7psi all the way to redline... A lot of the my comments come directly from the vendors I have had conversations with through phone calls or via (pm)..

So Rotarygod I'am not perfect but neither are you...

I'm not really speculating about much.

Funny how that is not even an included item in the system...
Jeff, isn't that the protech performance turbocharger in the picture? I might be missing something but I don't think this is the SSR kit unless these companies are one in the same?

Uh, yeah. I think I have them mixed up. Too much going on at the same time.
I need to sit down...

man i am quoteing myself. i must be able to know the winning lottery # s pm if you need them.

a turbo without a fuel managment system is like drinking alcohol free beer, whats the point. you going to support the damage done????????

thats just my opinion, i could be wrong.

I pretty well made my argument. I don't dispute their HP claims.
What I dispute is the pricing and contents issue.
They got their dyno numbers by adding all of the options. I'd hate to see the kid who buys their "kit" only to discover that he needs another $2k in parts to even make it work, let alone hit 285 HP.

Ouch! :p

I did try one of his S/C systems. I got it used for a couple of bucks.:D

Well, when I get the chance, I will.

However, you do the math.

I put down 225 at 5.5 PSI. That is 50 HP over stock. Now I am pushing between 9 and 10 PSI. Lets say that is an average of 4 PSI more. That is another 35 HP or so.
That makes 260.
Add to that my significantly better A/F and it is reasonable to think that I am in that range.

Don't bash me for that one Fred - I know pressure is not an indication of power. I'm just arguing a weak point to begin with.

But really, as others have stated, I am not sellng anything so I have nothing to prove.
I'm just concerned that someone will throw a ton of money at this "kit" and have little to show for it. Worse yet, they may find themselves at WOT looking out the window at the b-pillar of a Greddy equipped RX-8 with a driver who still has another $3000 in his bank account to spend on other stuff.

Hey MazdaManiac, I pretty much agree with your point. Maybe I'am taking this all to serious it seems allot of guys are hounding SFR/SSR too much , And I see my self coming to defend them...

You know , I guess my real point is I didn't see this hounding with Greddy( of course Greddy wasn't posting the info like SSR was, if at all) and I think they do have a damn good system. ( maybe pricey )

I know allot of you guys are damn good when it comes to Rotaries, But I'am no slouch when it comes to building race cars either, except mine were piston engines..

Just one more point I would like to make, Some have said I was promoting SFR/SSR Turbo, not, true in my earlier posting about which would win, I was referring to Greddy versus Pettit...

My real preference would be a Supercharger for reasons such as less heat in the engine compartment, easier to take off, I love the whine of a SC, more bottom end torque , no turbo lag, etc.

But I know what the current SC will be lacking when it comes out and that's low HP. I have already talked with hymme about his SC and the difference between his and Pettits (through PM ) and his unit is bigger so that should take care of the low HP numbers, I haven't talked with Richard Paul really, and his SC sounds promising...

So guys I really would like a Supercharger for my car, But I won't buy one with such low HP figures, and I really don't want to wait till next year... So as I said earlier the SFR/SSR is what I'am going with because it seems to be the best of what's out there right now and has potential for much more tweaking..

All they need to do is put up the dyno sheet they took not too long ago. They should be set, i think this kit does have a lot of potential on hand, because of the bigger injectors that you would have to buy later on. We have to remeber that the turbo's for our cars ar still fairly new. Without long term testing and years of tinkering around we wont get much power out of it for a while. Remember the RX-7 and Supra, started out with little hp and now 12 years later over 1000 horsepower!!! But thats 12 years worth of work and aftermarket support. This and other turbo kits are the first building blocks of power, there is no need to bash any system out there right now. Turbo is not a turbo unless its fine tuned and worked.

My underhood temps are exactly the same as stock, the turbo has a pretty cool whine of its own, a properly sized turbo will give you more low end torque that an SC (I think you are confusing the shape of the roots-style SC's powerband with actually making more power) and the Greddy kit (as well as mine) has absolutely no lag. Step on it and all of the boost is there.

Wow and I thought I was in the middle of a war zone. Can't we all just get along and enjoy this kit for what it is, another viable option for our RX8. Sure it's a little pricey but I'm still glad the option is here. Good luck to all that are spending their time on R&D for our cars. We all benefit when there are more options to choose from.

Rotoman, we are going to be testing the Greddy E-Manage to work with our kits to try and save some cost on the kit if we can get the greddy e-manage to work with our kit we could have a pre-tuned solution w/ injectors for less then $6000 with even better pricing on the group buy

All we need is a willing california resident, or in the area, that wants a turbo system at a great price, installed and tuned.

We'll be back in the same situation as before, the EMS alone will cost over $1K. The Greddy E-Manage is capable of controlling what we need it to for half of the cost.

But isn't a Turbo system without an fuel management system an easy out?

You can claim you use the best parts and are the best quality but when the Turbo blows up you can just say............

It was the fuel management system you used... We aren't accepting your warrenty claims.

Thanks for the update SSR. I'm glad to see that you guys are trying out many different things to use on this kit to help us poor guys out with the pricing. I commend you for all of your hard work and dedication to this turbo kit and going above and beyond for the customer.

Man this is fustrating Everyone seems to have their turbo/supercharged kits near completion but no one has TRULY sorted out the ECU and without the correct tuning these kits are not going to work at their full potential

cheers
