SFR RX-8 turbo entered into Great American Run(5000 miles in five days!)

One our our customers has entered his RX-8 turbo into the Great American Run If you dont know what the Great American Run is, it is similiar to the Cannonball Run where various cars race across the country. This is not a cheap race to enter since it is $10,000 per entry! Hopefully,he will do well and this will be a good test of the turbocharged Renesis motor

Seems like a fun waste of money. If I had $12-15k burning a hole in my pocket and wanted a S/Ced Mustang, I would consider it.

I guess it would be nice to share a little more info on this particular endeavor. The customers has owned RX-8s since they first came to the market. He has wanted to do this race in an RX-8 for sometime and decided this was the year to do it.However,he sort of waited till the last minute. Then an unavoidable accident destroyed his RX-8.So what does a die hard RX-8 guy do? Well.......... go out and buy a brand new 07' nine days before the race. Then turbocharger it ,add big brakes, susension, wheels and tires and anything else that can be delivered to Canada and installed in under a week! Whohoo!!!! Talk about last minute! Well the good news is that he made it to New York to start the race with only 800 kilometers on the motor. So it should be interesting.I will post some more details as I get them and there should be some cool video comming too.

That is awesome! Nothing like ramming air down an unbroken-in engine! I hope they do well! Rotary FTW!

Recent update and pics added to the first post. The SFR turboed RX-8 is in the Rocky mountains at this time. It has covered over 2000 miles since the start of the race in New York. Everything is going well and the driver is reporting that it is keeping up with alot of the supercars entered into the race and definitely "holding its own". I will post some more pics, videos and details soon.

Tim,
Is he using your engine management straight out of the box? Just curious since there was so little time for him to get the car ready.

It was set to 8 psi since the motor only had 600 kilometers on it!

Yes.The tune is out of the box. Overall, it is a big sucess. Five days to do everything is a big accomplishment. The car will be here at our shop on Friday night or Saturday morning so we can look it over and take some pictures.

Would be cool if the guy came on here and posted some comments after the race is done...of course, he'd then have to leave the site becuase everyone knows that the Renesis can't be boosted reliably, and that he'd be a liar and couldn't have ever finished the race on his first engine...

You are so right. Maybe he will come on here though and let people know about his adventure. There is a story he told me about drving through Kansas with three other cars and they got a police escort going over 120mph to the stateline! Sirens blaring, pedstrian vehicles puling to the side of the road, the whole nine yards.

There is some more details on this website:

Sweet
and yes it is the truth: "Renesys can not be boosted reliably." What a load of horseshit!

We're in Denver, Co guys. Apprently some of the other contestants were showing off and doing high speeds and the Kansas police didnt like it, so they started to setup roadblocks to catch, ticket or arrest the other drivers. So we detoured to some lil town who didnt have a walmart yet but it was being built so were trying to figure out what to do when this hot chick pulls up and it turns out shes from the local newpaper(http://www.wgtndailynews.com/) and interviewd us and took an interview with us, took our pictures and said she was goin to put us in the newspaper while talking to her we explain whats going on and why were in her lil podounk town, when she says OH im friends with the sheriff we are like so we ask her if she can get us an escort out of town she says hang on let me call in and ask. Next thing I know were driving to the local sheriff station and waiting on the sheriff, the sheriff pulls up in this pt cruiser or HHR cant remember and is like hey guys what do you need we explain the situation to him and he says ok hold on...he's like let me get a car right quick and help you guys make up some lost time! were like so next thing we know were doing 120 with a 1 car police escort thru the town for about a good 40 miles AT LEAST! by passing the roadblock that was setup to catch us. We have lots of videos of it but these hotesl wifi suck for upload so it will be up once we get home. But check the link I left for the wellington news and we made the front page of thier news paper the supra will be on the front!! Ok well thats it for today guys were getting dressed and ready to party in vegas!!!!!

So the SFR turbo powered RX-8 has finished the Great American Run. He has put over 5000 miles on the turbo system and new motor in about 5 days! LOL. The car is being shipped back to Canada now and the owner of the vehicle will be sending me some more pics and videos of his adventure. He said the car ran flawlessly and was very happy. I was very happy to hear that. I think this is a good testament to turbocharing the Renesis.
