well I busted my face with a breaker bar and have a nice scare on my face. I might be getting a warranted motor but not for sure yet. I am going to port it for sure and maybe lower the compression if there is some room on the rotors to do so.

That's bad news mate. Still, you lasted 3 months longer than I had tipped in Brillo's poll :p . You're the first FI RX-8 owner thats blown an engine by my reckoning. Someone else collected the beers...damn!
What happened?

It ran great until I got that stupid dongle update. Oh well live and learn. I might sell the turbo kit. How much do you think it is worth used? 2400 bucks with a greddy type s BOV.

I had serious problems pulling my motor out today...did you just unbolt the motor mounts from the side of the motor or detach the entire mount from the frame? I'm having serious trouble detaching the transmission from the motor! The service manual was vague at best. I also busted up my hands and face pretty badly in the process

I supported the motor from up top! I have a lift so it is a little easier than doing it on jack stands. Then remove the mounts completely and support the trans from underneath and slowly raise the engine and shake and pull until it comes free. Also I took off the upper intake manifold to get better view of it all. A load leveler makes it quick work aswell.

Well I worked for Peter Farrell Supercars and worked on FD's for a living so it became "another day at the office" getting motors out so to me it was a little harder but it was my first time. But after a few I can see it being just as easy if not easier.

it has a lot more "modular" feel to it.
--pop out the air box, battery, front items
--get rid of the upper manifold so you can reach things
--all the tranny-to-motor bolts can be removed from underneath (this is where that extra $100 in universals and swivels comes in handy )
-- unplug the harness from the ecu
-- off with the wheels-----unbolt the motor mounts fromt he engine and loosten them from the frame.
-- easier to pull it if you remove the exhaust manifold from the engine (i even leave it connected to the midpipe)
--out with the smog pump, acv thing, misc crap from the engine compartment
-- jack up the tranny so it's very close to the top of the tunnel and hook up your cherry picker
give it a few pumps and a few bounces and it'll come right out.
anything i forgot, sorry...just fill in the blanks.
job takes me about 2 hours with air tools.

oh yea...
get a set of reversable gear wrenches.
the 10 is good for the 2 bolts to the upper manifold by the oil filler
the 12 is schweet for the a/c compressor.
buy swivel extensions. buy cheap swivels if you're poor...you're gonna be using them on mostly 6X1.00 bolts.
uhhhhh.....that's it for now

Will attack it again soon!
Edit: do you need to take the driveshaft out to give enough room to pop the engine loose without hitting the steering rack?

naw, a cosmo 13b with a gt35r
the shitty thing about popping a seal on a renesis is it has nowhere to go... yea, it'll find its way out eventually, but you're almost guranteed a rotor and housing replacement when it pops.
