Performance Mods.
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the rotary scene. Just wanted to get some info on the 8 before I try and FI. Anyway, some background info on me: My name's Dan, I reside in Norfolk, Virginia , I'm currently in the Army and I'm 19. '05 RX8 6Speed Manual, 54k chassis, 15k replaced motor.
Quick rundown on some "starting" mods -AEM Intake -Greddy / Mazdaspeed Exhaust System -BHR Ignition System -Cobb Accessport Flash Tuner Now, the real question. I plan on hitting 300-350RWHP. I know I have to go FI. My budget is around $6-7k USD. Which is more safer/reliable for a daily driver, super charger or turbo? Which SC / TC is the "best bang for your buck" as well? I know Petit is discontinued, and I believe hymee is $12,000, what other Superchargers are there? I was looking into Esmeril, & Turblown's kits. But what it really comes down to is, which is more suitable for an RX8, which is more reliable. Thanks for reading, I look forward to being apart of this community. |
OMG seriously dude.
Delete this thread. And asking which is better TC or SC is damn near a religious question on this forum. You'll have to decide yourself, honestly. Now put your flame suit on... horrible reason to start a new thread ... and your first. Troll l |
lol @ 350rwhp + "reliable" w/ $6K

Have fun with what you have, take an advanced driving course, stick some decent tyres on it,service and maintain it well, and enjoy.

There's no best bang for the bucks in the car performance world. You always get what you pay for.
To achieve your goal of 300rwhp you will need around 9\10k for the turbo build and be ready to grenade your first engine, especially if it was a simple mazda reman. After that factor in anything between 4500 and 7000$ for a decent engine build. |

Yes... and a search would tell you what the users have to deal with after they buy that thing.
Take a look at turblown's turbo kit, factor in the cost for a sohn adapter, pcm flasher, install, boost controller (electronic), injectors and yadda yadda and then report back on the price. Oh, add a midpipe because the catalytic converter won't last, bhr coils because the oe ones won't be enough etc, too. |
not to mention all the cooling mods that come with FI

A good example is 9krpmrx8's build thread if you want to see the troubles people go through. He's already gone well past your budget and is shooting for lower numbers. Check Chris's thread for a budget build that is on the high end of your budget and shooting for lower numbers. |
Turblown looks like the only real option, based on what I've found. I have only been here a week or so but I've been scouring the FI forums to make sure I didn't miss anything.
At least you got an S1, you could have an S2 with no viable FI options :wallbash: It would be cheaper to buy an RX-7 if you must have a rotary turbo |
^ 2 out of 3 ain't bad
Turblown looks like a good option, but you and the OP are overlooking all of the supporting mods that you will need to keep the car running. srsly Thank you for doing some research. It seems rare these days. |

Sorry for not being more clear - the turblown kit + all of the necessary bits is the only solution I'd consider, if I had an S1 :) It's not even close to OP's budget, hence my Rx-7 suggestion
Looks like they can do S2, but the EMS is expensive. spot on about just buying a boosted 7, even though they aren't known for being ultra reliable either. |
I know your new, but you might get far more enjoyment out of your car by taking that 6-7k and spending it on sticky tires/light wheels and suspension mods, just a thought:dunno:

gotcha, appreciate the info.

I think you should get on ebay and buy both that way you will get twice the power with none of the draw backs.
