Pretty surprised Tim put that on the Z forum and no one did flame him.

I, too, was extremely surprised by the lack of fire directed at Tim for implying that the 8 was a comparable (if not a better...) car to the Z...

3339 for a base hatch according to motortrend. Not terribly heavy, but, as pointed out in the thread, about 10% more than an 8.

The SFR kit looks interesting to me, and I'm curious why more people don't run it. Apparently, people were up in arms about a miscommunicated posting involving HP numbers, but if the kit is good (which by all indications seem to be the case) why wouldn't people run it and push it to see what it's full potential is. Especially if you can get (according to my recollection of another thread on the subject) upwards of 330 hp on a reasonably conservative tune, why wait on the more expensive Mazsport kit?

I wouldn't compare the SFR and Mazport kits as 5500$ vs. $8k-$10k. This is off topic so, suffice to say, that at $5500, they do not include the same parts. They are different kits. Right now, with Mazsport type 1 having hit 330+ rwhp and SFR sporting 320+ rwhp, so they have, to date, delivered roughly equivalent performance.
I like the SFR kit. I looked at it a while back and the components seemed to be selected well. They've had a car running on the kit over 20k miles.

Believe that's a reflection of the lift in the door.
I rented a 350z last week for 7 days. Drove it from San Jose down the lovely Pacfic Coast Highway all the way to Cambria. For those who don't know, that's about 3 hours of twisty, winding roads. Granted, it was an automatic, but frankly, I missed my turbo 8. The off-th-line grunt of the 350 was nice, but by 25mph or so, my 8 would have been proceeding to blow the doors off the stock z car. The handling was good, but I thought it was a little rough around the edges. The 8 handles a little better without beating you to death. Any boost gives the 8 the edge over the z. The SFR kit would push it into another league all together.

hmmm, from what Ive seen posted here most people who have weighed there rx8's have gotten numbers quite a bit below 3000 lbs, even for a gt... fully fueled, are those numbers for the z fully fueled? I know from the mods that I have done to lighten the car Im at least 60-100lbs lighter than the 3000lb mark in a gt fully fueled put myself in the car 175 and Im still just under 3000 now if u compare my rx8 with me in it and a 350 with a driver my size 175, not even counting if they have gas in the car or not thats a difference of close to 500lbs.........quite a bit of wieght.....I'm sure I could feel that.

I dont remember the exact number, but the shipping company did give it to me, it was under 2,900lbs, but mie its a JDM, no leather no nav or anything like that

3339 was the motor trend weight on a 350Z.
3040 (from memory so could be wrong) was the weight of a RX-8 GT.
Both numbers could be equally erroneous. Maybe the 8 weighs 2800 and the Z is 3100. My 8 probably weighs a bunch because I have most of the factory options, built in subs, and a tubby *** driver.

320 WHP. Nice. Anyone seen a dyno sheet? Does it run out of steam over 7000 RPM? Is that on 9PSI? How long before it chews up seals?
The kit looks nice a pretty well designed package. Better then anything else I've seen so far.

There is a 326 whp dyno sheet on the page, though the tune looks a little out of whack. It probably got improved as they refined it. Looks like they ran the car up to 7850 on 9 psi. They've run a car 20k miles/2 years, still running. There are a few people on here with the kit, though no one very vocal.

Thanx max, thats about what I was expecting. Centrifigal air pumps just don't seem to match the ultra wide power band of a rotary.
Good to know that the Renesis can live at least 20,000 miles though.
Next I'll be looking for a good comparison on the Pettit SC system over the next few months. The axial flow looks promising as well but I don't expect that to be available for quite a while. I'm not in any hurry to do anything just interested at this point. Too many other distractions to do any hot rod stuff for a while.
