MAF Screen Question...

Hey guys I have recently been experiencing some erratic idle on my turbo rx8 (MM GT3071r). I have a custom air intake setup using a K&N version 1 MAF tube and a vibrant 90 degree bend. I remebered when setting everything up with my mechanic i had a screen on the MAF some simple screening material fitted around the front of the MAF tube. The erratic idle prompted me to take a look today at the pipping well i did and it seems that its not there, my guess the mechanic said wtf is this home depot stuff and took it off. So im guessing my erratic idle is now due to turbulance in the MAF. I have no vaccum leaks im pulling 20 at idle. Could the screen really be doing all of this? I remember having a similar issue when i was NA and one of my screens went sideways. Are there any particular specs on the MAF screening im going to go get some today so i can see if this is the issue...Any input on what people may possibly be using or specs would be helpful otherwise i will eye it based on what i have seen in the aem intake.

Yeah the screen help regulate the flow of air past the MAF. It makes the car smoother.

On the stock intake there are 2 - both to mellow the air turbulence.
Getting rid of one is fine, as RB's Intake design does, but you need at least one other, doesn't matter if you're turbo or not.
