hey guitarjunkie-

dont mean to hijack but can you tune/reflash an STI JDM version 8 motor for cali gas? we are almost done with one of your swaps but we are having problems finding GOOD subaru tuners with reflashers around your area. id run a US ECU but from what i hear, the heads and cams are really different.

i've never done any tuning on the scoobs, so i'd have to figure it out as i went along...which i'm sure i could do, but i don't have the equipment for it.
besides, wouldn't you rather have someone that works on those cars every day do the tuning? i'm sure most of those shops could do a better job than i can.

one moved away and the other has a well deserved negative reputation. jim wolf also quoted $1000 for the reflash tune unlicensed i believe. i think/hope the owner will end up getting a stand alone.

yeah.. just wanted to send some buisness your way. plus you come highly recomended from the rotary community and he wants someone reputable. from what i understand, finding a good subie tuner in LA county is harder to do now that some of the better tuners moved to sandeigo.

thanks for the input though guys.

how much work is involved with swaping the renesis into an FC? are you going to make your own mounts?

not sure yet, but i'm about to find out

it'll bolt to the tranny... that's the easy part. i'll be making my own mounts which won't be too hard either. the only "hard" part is getting the factory computer to work properly with NO check engine light-since i want to get a ref number and make this swap totally legal.

ahh... its the electrical that always gets me too. we got the new motor, tranny, new arms, lsd, hubs..etc in a few hours. makeing the new wireing harness took me and my buddy a full day and we still got it wrong. we had to call a friend of ours who knows nothing about cars but everything about schematics. i left before he finished but from what i hear, it only took him an hour.

your using the mazsport modded greddy system right? i take it that its not for sale anymore?

cant wait till i start working on my 8!

As far as motor mounts go, it should be easier than you think. The 2nd gen driver's side motor mount will bolt right up. Use it. That leaves one to go. Take another one of these driver's side mounts and bolt it up to the pasenger side of the Renesis. You will need to space it out though but this should work (it works on GSL-SE engines going into 2nd gens). Instant Renesis mounts. Unless some bolt patterns have changed on the intermediate housing, it should be this easy. If not you'll at least have one mount done and lined up.

almost, but the renesis oil pan is more shallow than the fc pan. i'm gonna see how low i can get the engine in the chassis.

ghost-- it's not the mazsport greedy, it's something i had my turbo guy do for me.

You may have clearance issues with the steering rack on the front of the engine if you try to go lower. I would personally keep it the same height and just make a larger, deeper oil pan.

I just bought an '89 convertible. I'm very interested in your swap. Please take exceptional notes and pictures so I can learn from your experience. I want to do the renesis swap, probably without any forced induction. Thanks

well plans have changed a bit. it might be too hard to make this thing completely legal right now so here's the quick rundown:

bolt the motor to the tranny, make the motor mounts, use the interceptor, add a cable throttle body.

that's about it....well, basically speaking. it'll obviously be more involved than that, but that's the basic rundown in a nutshell.
