I have read somewhere that LS1 coils operate with positive signals like the ones on the RX-8. Anyone ever experiment with them. I found a couple posts of people saying they would do so but nothing more after that. We are currently working on a good, affrodable ignition upgrade and are currently exploring three different possibilities this one being one of them. The guys in the Rx-7 forums have been using them to beyond 450whp with no problems. Thanks in advance.

Chris

Yes, this is another project on my plate.
I'm just waiting until the fall when it is cooler and I have more time.

Do they work with a positive signal as well? Has anyone simply tried to connect them to see if they work?

Yes. They might be plug-n-play, but I'd have to bench one first and I just don't have the time right now.

I remember you posted a diagram for a "driver" some time ago to turn the positive signal to a ground signal so as to be able to use aftermarket ignitions. I also remember that someone though the diagram had a mistake. Do you have a diagram you can post on this thread of the one that works?

I have a few diagrams I've gotten online but we are a little confused about the whole NPN or PNP transistor and which one should be used. It almost seems like some of the diagrams contradict themselves.

So the coil failures are due to internal heat/current within the coil? or from the engine? or both?...

Didn't Richard Gere nearly get killed by a ferret discharge?

Is there any way to mount the coil packs to a heat sink or otherwise improve their cooling (and I realize I'm talking out of my @$$) ?

Everyone keeps talking about the Pettit "coil relocation pack" as if its some special piece you have to purchase. Anyone can do it if they feel like cutting/drilling/screwing.

I didn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary you would expect to find in a rotory shop...except maybe an RX8 going through a 3 rotor conversion, Rx7, Miata 3 rotor , several RX8, including one almost finished, galaxy grey with a Type 3 kit...very clean nice looking install and ride. You know, the usual stuff you see in a shop like cars going under the knife to possibly improve their performance etc beyond normal means.

Very nice operation and kind to take time out of their day to talk to a possible customer who walked in off the street unannounced.

Looking forward to the next several months as I search for an RX8 and have them give it some massaging...

Maybe Scott can arrange a ride for me next week...to see how one pulls. Maybe it will be up for a run against my M3.

Otherwise, I am not one to talk about somebody's products or offerings they might be releasing even if I did know something.
