What is the minimum dream horsepower or speed that is enough for the RX-8?

What is the minimum horsepower or speed that you guys would be satisfied with???

You can always say 2000 WHP, but that is a fantasy. What would be the lowest level of HP, if you could choose it, that would make you happy and is realistic.

For me, another 100 HP SAE over what I have, is fine. The RX-8 looks to need to be around 300 HP SAE or 255 RWHP. The ability to run in the low 6s or 5s in a 0-60 with an RX-8 Auto (Autos run in the 7 sec to 9 sec range, depending on mods, if a 6speed or 4speed, and country because of different HP) would be about right. I would think that low 5s or 4s would be the goal for RX-8 M/T guys.

Is 300 to 325 HP SAE or 255 to 275 RWHP the standard or do you guys want more or less???

How much HP or RWHP do you guys feel will get RX-8 M/T into the low 5s or 4s???

How much HP or RWHP do you guys feel will get the RX-8 Auto into the lows 6s or 5s???

I'm curious as to what other RX-8 owners think or want.

What's the point to say give me 600 whp or 2000 whp, you know that is not practical and are very unlikely to get.

Now to say, 300 to 350 WHP, so I can beat porches is a more realistic goal. You could mod an RX-8 up to this level.

It is also a practical goal to mod the RX-8 at a certain horsepower rating, so it can beat its closest competition. Fast enough to beat a 350Z in 0-60, a mustang, or a porsche makes sense. I think in that way you can see what is the minimum of what people want (actually I will rephrase the question to reflect that). Perhaps you have a time in mind. Like 4 or 5 second 0-60.

Mustangs? Are you kidding?
it takes them NA with no problem (Unless they are really heavily modded)
Common guys, 8 ain't that bad stock. You just gotta give it some rev...
How can you even compare a porche and a Mustang?
But yeah 300 - 350 is about all it needs to be the car you always wanted. Anything above that would make it a road monster
As for reliability: it is always an argumentative point, as different people have diferent reliability expectations. Some will say the car is reliable if it can take a few undred mile at a full boost race, and others expect it to run trouble free for a 100K miles at 5 PSI...

I think my goal is something like 300whp/200wtq. It's nice and round. It would be nice to have a setup capable of more and back it off some.

I'd also like my job to pay 10x as much, not have to pay taxes, and to have a super model girlfriend who can cook.

Dude my wife looks like a super model, and booooyyyyy she can cook... LOL, but it doesn't change the fact the I am still driving an NA car (well not exactly, as mine is in the garage sitting on a bunch of bricks, waiting for me to finish my turbo setup) , But I was until last Sunday. ha ha

Well get me that raise, let me borrow your wife (wink wink nudge nudg, say no more), and we'll forget about the taxes for now.

well they did say 3rd gens rx7 was limited to like 300rwhp but look wat happen. freakin 600 somethin rwhp is happenin already. so its a matter of time for renesis to acheive those numbers and alot to do wit proper tunin

300 RWHP would be perfect for me... but I would never sacrifice reliability for it, that's why I'm pretty happy with my renesis' power output right now. I managed to compete with 240's with my underpowered ae86, this should be more than enough to get me sideways.

well im not really too worried bout reliability. i popped my motor once and was able to pulled the motor out and take it to a buddy of mine and have it rebuilt. it would be nice if it last a long time wit proper tunin but at least im able to rebuild it so im ok wit big hp if i can achieve it

I'm surprised this thread has stayed on topic as well as it has.

This question is pretty generic. Most people are going to say as much as possible provided it doesn't cost anything more and suffer in reliability. The car looks like it should toast Evo's and Z's so it should probably have at least 350whp to match its looks.

Ok if I had to ask for something, I would like that the engine provides a perfectly constant torque curve of 30 kgm from 850 to 9500 rpm in NA form.

Yes that is impossible but it is what I would love. Love the renesis as it comes stock anyway.

Cheers

Why try raise hp numbers?

I catch myself wondering what would be like if I had a 400whp monster, puffing and huffing and screamin' and I forget that I use my 8 to go to my work sometimes, visit friends, some mini excursions country style, go to my parent's village and so forth.
How will I manage to do these things while having a turboed 8 that needs constant attention to the AFR gauges etc. , cool down times, excessive frictions and so on....
Well I can't.
What I would wish is an 8 with a real 250 N/A SAE hp number, working properly summer winter, night day, in traffic, in highways etc. with which I will have my fun but also it will be bullet proof. Right now I have 200hp and most of the formentioned are succeeded. I can squeeze it all day long and still have no problems at all and keep up with all these s2k's and TypeR's in my land. And they don't believe it! There are ways to make it very fast without adding more hp but of course with all this hp mania (coming from manufacturers--i.e. a small hatch nowadays produces 200hp--Renault Clio RS and 3 MPS 265 and the list goes on) we are poor relatives.
I hope it is a trend of our days and not here to stay.
Don't know though, it is confusing.
