HKS is a great company, and i'd pay $7500 or whatever if it was a turbo kit. i also don't like the fact that SC's pull the bearings to one side and rob power to make power. SC's are one thing, but a centrifugal is probably the worst option for this engine. it would probably turn a decent 1/4 time since there's no boost down low to make launching any more of an issue and plenty of power up top, but on a road course or daily driving it'd be a chore. of course only numbers and facts will tell. perhaps HKS has something up its sleeve...it is a gorgeous piece of hardware!

thanks for the heads up though man, i always love to see new things!

no prob man...i'll keep you all updated as I hear more information about the kit.

Save your money, go buy a faster car if that's what you are looking for.

My friend's 1998 Civic would still kill my car because all he wanted to do was increase the speed... make it super ricey. In the end, which car do you think most people are impressed with on the road? The RX-8, styling and profiling... or the Civic which has no back seat, rollbars, and driving on the 405 Freeway traffic going 10mph.

i know what you mean..i've been there before, with a civic albieit. but on the other hand, the newness of our cars means alot of parts out right now are pretty conservative. but i guess it all depends on preference. i had a friend that drove an 880whp supra 2000 miles a month...i could never do it.

XDEEDUBBX 01-17-2005 07:08 PM

880 hp...2000 miles a month...he's got some brass ones...

Outlaws eXtreme 01-17-2005 07:18 PM

Imagine the Dodge Viper Venom owners with their 650+ HP cars driving those daily. Saw a Viper Venom meet in Burbank before and two of the owners had the 1100+ HP cars... Loud as F*ck, but didn't seem to accelerate 'that' fast... I'm sure top speed would be sick. Nuts of steel indeed.

murix 01-17-2005 07:27 PM

You only need to look at the dyno of a S2000 with a centrifugal to get a general idea what is gong to happen with the 8.

Daily driver is a broad definition and really does come down to preference.

Adding forced induction to a car will not hurt its driveability. Going crazy on it might. Something like the Greddy kit, when tuned properly and at the recommended low boost level, should really not provide any cause for concern on wear and tear or driveability. I just sold my 97 Eclipse which started life as a non turbo and served fine as a daily driver with near 400hp.

Power in itself is not a indicator of how hard it is to drive a car.

IZoomZoomI 01-18-2005 12:18 AM

i think a positive displacement s/c would be the best bet if you are using the 8 as a daily driver. More low end boost for everyday stop light to stop light driving. Yea centrifugals are a joke for small displacement engines, slap that on a mustang it be a different story.

shall wait for RP axial flow charger, seen more simple & easy to install, size also much compact than any other supercharger that is offer on the market now.

Most people assume that when you add FI to a car you lose reliability. Which if done incorrectly is true. Look at the 1000 hp Supra in Super Street last month that ran the SS Tour to NOPI this past year. I met up with that guy in Jackson MS and that car ran flawlessly and without issues the whole time because it is built and tuned properly.

Any car can be a "daily driver" if it is tuned and maintained properly. This is more than likely why so many companies have spent more time in R&D on the RX-8. It's a tough nut to crack. Who would want to offer a FI kit of any sort that is going to be known as the one that toats everyone's engine?

I will say that this thing looks very impressive. I would plunk down $5 to $6 grand for it too. It's beautiful. But it just has to be proven to be reliable.

On a lighter note, I think that it's funny that you really hear nothing about this kit and they produce photos of a working prototype with a tenative timeline and Sunflower Mazda is still trying to get their car to start. ;)

So what happened to that sunflower mazda car anyway?

Anyway, from what my sources are telling me, this kiit was completed just prior to the show. This is why there are no numbers...

Good deal.. good luck with it ;) I certainly does look good in the engine bay! Hope your wallet doesn't take too much of a beating if the price point for this kit is close to $7k :p.

Dont feel bad a dealer offered me 14,500 for my car for a 350Z. I got the greddy kit instead of losing that money. Just make your car badass and keep it. That is what I am doing.

If you don't agree with what I stated, then refute it.

I surely don't know evertything. If I did, I would have known not to bother responding to your thread - knowing that you are such a blowhard.

Jeff, I understand your sense of humor. Some people here dont get it. I think it is funny with the emoticons.
