Guage temp and pressure questions

I have attempted to find this info but it seems its kind of all over the place and never in one single thread.....I have a few questions and/or issues with my guages...I have the RB adapters for oil temp, oil pressure and water temp....

1-Water temp turns on but does not read the temp (i am thinking bad sender) because the wires are correct and it is grounded on the same grounds the other 2 working guages use

2-Oil pressure at idle is at about 25psi and when i am on it can go as high as 75psi but in grear on the highway is around 50psi (just wanted to amke sure the numbers made sense)

3- Oil temp at idle sits at 190 but has gone as high as 210 in traffic.....i noticed the faster i go the quicker the temps drop (just want to make sure im good on this as well)

Thanks for taking the time to read this....

I had the same issue with the prosport gauges, it was indeed a sensor

My Idle oil pressure is more like 10. The #'s your showing when WOT and highway looks about right.

Sounds perfect, the faster you go the more air hits your oil coolers thus cooling the oil.

By the way like the new setup of your car. I'm moving to Princeton next year, looking forward to meeting the NY/NJ crew.

Ok just FYI as per Autometer's response when installing the water temp sender you need to be careful and not put too much teflon tape because it is a self grounding unit and that can interrupt signal so now i have to test it by grounding it on the hex nut (not the same spot as the signal wire)....if its not that then it can be a faulty sender and they will take care of it for me....

never fear, Jedi is here!

Water temp for me us around 180-185 at highway cruising, during street driving I'll see 190-210. (depends on how hot it is.) I've seen as high as 225.

Oil psi seems a bit high at idle. mine is 10-15 after the car has warmed up.

ok cool...its just below the 25 mark on my guage so it could be a little lower on the pressure at idle......but my oil temp seems to be higher than yours is when its warmed up....so i guess 75psi at WOT is pretty good then.....

My oil temp gauge has been acting up recently, I need to think about having Nordskog ship me a replacement. Mine has always read lower then a buddy of mine whose car is pretty much a replica of mine (mod-wise) so it could be my gauge or my Jedi Power's ability to lower oil temperatures.

Jedi,

You have the AP right? If so have you compared your gauge water temp to the AP water temp? I found that my gauge usually reads about 10-15 deg. less.

The temps have gone down since installing the AP. It's going to get super toasty this summer so we'll see how the AP+Mazmart water pump hold up.

But does the AP reading and gauge reading differ?

I've compared the AP to the guages and the differnce is VERY minnimal. (1-2 degrees F )
When compared with the scanalyzer, I noticed smiliar results. (1-2 degrees)

Could be a difference in temperature sensing locations. Not sure where the PCM gets its readings from.

I have my water temp in the hose by the washer fluid tank. I think it's the water coming out or into the heater core.

OK Autometer was right....since the sender is a self grounded unit when too much teflon is applied you lose contact.....so i used a chassis ground and ran a wire to the hex nut on the sender and Voila!.....reads perfectly....so if you got Autometer ful sweep electronic guages you should either use the teflon sparingly re-ground it afterwards

couple of hints--electric gauges like for the sender and the gauge to use the same grounds.
Speed source stops running when their coolant gets to 230F--just keep that in mind please. Normal driving i never see coolant temps over 200F.
Oil temops are not as sensitive but remember that the oil cools a lot of this engine so watch it also.
hope you are not running 5 w/20 oil--so at 65-70 mph in 6 th gear you should be over 50lbs unless you are running 5w/20

i am running 5w-20...and that pic was doing about 60-65 in 6th......earlier though when sitting in heavy traffic the car went as high as 225 on the oil and 210 on the water but when it opened back up it was around 170 for both
