I have been running e85 in my NA engine now for the last 2 months with no issues - I use 1.5oz klotz premix to every gallon of ethanol. The injectors have roughly 20-30% left on them for duty cycle and the fuel pressure drop from 2000rpms to 9000rpms is roughly 3psi. I was able to run a much leaner gasoline scaled A/F of 13.1 which my EGTs ranging from 1350-1450. Iv ran into some electrical issues and I have a new engine harness, crank angle sensor and trigger wheel on its way. Once I have the electrical gremlin fixed I will be heading to the dyno since all the tuning has been done on the street.

Cheers,

Shawn Christenson

Are you still running the omp ?

shawnm565 08-14-2018 03:59 PM

Yes but that is just due to the fact iv not had time to remove it.

Been chasing my tail on a electrical issue. I also took this time to finish up some of the upgrades I had sitting in my garage. Car should be up and running by Sunday. Hopefully dyno the following week.

Worth considering if you are running a high % of ethanol :

I'm going to run this oil for premix when I go e85

Its what I run! I love the smell and the FD motor I took apart the rotor housings looked mint when I took apart the engine.

For reference . Shows the non-linear relationship between Ethanol % and octane :

I was considering running e50, mixing 93 pump (e10) with e85, 1:1 ratio would be easy to measure. And I would only have to bring half as much e85 to the track. That was when I was concern that the stock gas tank would not be large enough for entire race on e85. But I need to detune the car for class, so I don't think that will be an issue angnany

Brettus 10-22-2018 02:35 PM

I suspect that much of the gains of going to E85 will be lost by dropping to E50 in an NA aplication .

trackjunkie 11-01-2018 02:54 PM

Got my car switched over to e85 and tuned. Still on stock injectors and fuel pump. I will also be detuning to about 180 whp for the race class. Numbers are also mustang Dyno.

Yup, around 11.5:1 for 93 pump and 13:1 for e85

Brettus 11-02-2018 02:39 AM

That's quite a significant power increase given that it's over the entire rev range !

trackjunkie 11-02-2018 08:25 AM

they dyno runs were about a week apart and the ambient temp were about the same. still running fairly stock timing. will spend more time on dyno over the winter to try to get more mid range power. it definitely takes longer to start the car, and i have a mini battery, so that doesnt help.

shawnm565 11-02-2018 10:15 AM

Looks like my advise helped out and e85 obviously makes POWER! :)

Flex-Fuel Tune Adaptronic Modular Rx8 Plug N Play ECU

trackjunkie 01-20-2019 10:26 PM

wow that looks good. i might look into switching to Adaptronic mid season pending how i do racing on E85. i was able to do one Time trial event towards the end of the season but that's not a really good gauge how it will do in racing.

It will depend on a lot of variables and my car is mostly custom mods rather than off the shelf parts. I dyno’d higher on gasoline than anything I’ve seen for E85 from anyone I’d trust to provide a good number. The potential is quite significant for FI, but for NA it’s pretty much what I previously posted.

Having run and tuned both many years ago, a straight gasoline NA Renesis should also be tuned @ 13:1. Running gasoline @ 11.5:1 and ethanol @ 13:1 is not an adequate assessment comparison.

trackjunkie 05-14-2019 08:54 PM

i went back looked at my dyno run logs, Lambda for 93 pump gas was around .87-.89 and for E85 lambda was round .83-.85, that's measured from the oem wideband with Versatuner. the AFR on the dyno chart is from the wideband sniffer clamped on the tail pipe.
