its the wastegate, not the BOV.

Its the wastegate and it doesn't pose a problem. We tested this setup in real world situations and didn't have a problem. Not only is it between the wheels, its also right behind the passenger wheel and not in the middle. Even if you go over something, you'd have to drive over something high enough to reach the bottom of the car and have it pass right behind the front passenger tire without letting the tire get on it to touch the wastegate rod. The rod comes unscrewed as well, when he screws it back into position it won't be as low. Also note that the cross member is not on the car in the pics, so the wastegate seems to protrude more than it actually will when the install is finished.

Chris

It's true, after wrestling with it for about an hour I was too tired to keep working on the car so I put some jackstands and wood blocks under the engine and left it like that until I can get the engine mount and crossmember on later today.

Stuff I still have to do before first startup:

1) install upgraded secondary injectors in the lower intake manifold
2) install radiator & fan assembly
3) install oiling system (sandwich plate & return line)
4) install intercooler and piping!
5) finish my gauge pod (needs one last layer of resin and final sanding then I can paint and mount it)
6) install my WBO2 & boost gauge
7) plug in my Interceptor X

Hey, Des Moines isn't too far away! Are you coming to the meet April 19th in Omaha? I think we have 5 Iowans so far going for sure. We also have a group on Facebook for Iowa RX-8 owners, just another way to try and stay in touch with other local owners. We try to have little meets in CR every once and a while but we've really just started, most of us just got our 8 last summer. Look us up on the Facebook page and join up!

nice install, but I don't think you needed to remove radiator & fan assembly for this install.

tdiddy 02-29-2008 07:14 AM

Not unless you are replacing the radiator.

WoodsOfGreenRx8 02-29-2008 10:15 AM

The stall is caused by the wonderful people at fedex. I'm waiting for my radiator to get here. After I get my radiator I should be able to have the thing done in a few hours.

1) install upgraded secondary injectors - Done!
2) install radiator & fan assembly
3) install oiling system (sandwich plate & return line) - Need to tap for my mechanical oil temp gauge
4) install intercooler and piping!
