also 4-port, so no APV assembly etc., I was going to check fitment on my 6-port car soon, maybe this weekend.

I did find a source for Sch 5 T321 pipe elbows though and might have gone with 1.5” (1.9” OD) instead.

hmmmmm ....so you are having a shot at it after all ?

Enjoying this thread ...thanks all.
I am trying to get back into the rx8, but the lack of power ( for me) mandates a plan to accomplish that before I jump.
325 rwhp with a great torque curve and ability to survive a road course is my goal. This thread helps in understanding how to acceive this. Appreciate it.

Great to hear OD ....but if you thought the SC was a lot of messing about you wont much like the turbo idea!

No, I had already bought the turbo from before and was just taking a look at what it might require before I finish my NA exhaust since it was sitting around.

You can forget about even wishing about getting a 7670 EFR down in there  holy crap, I gained some respect for that other guy that put a 7063 in there on the 6-port. Wish he hadn’t deleted all his vids. Definitely need a whole different motor mount arrangement, but I was already counting on doing that. It was a lot tighter than I was expecting between the length, compressor cover accessories, and wastegate mounting bracket. A reverse turbine setup would be easier, but no such thing for now.

After seeing Elliott post that they were hitting 30 psig by 3000 on an REW and E85 with the 7670 that sounds like a much better option now

I see ... kinda like bringing a new woman home ...getting her 'in the mood' then ..................."yeah nah , I just wanted to check if your hair matched my new sofa".

I suppose you got me, even if it doesn’t make much sense :scratchhe

Not sure if I’m going to finish rebuilding the one build I have let alone a second one, but that’s life.

Was not supposed to be a blow ....just having you on ! As you do me ;) . Didn't know about the reason ...sorry to hear that man !

Team - Would that you're able to finish and enjoy your build. :)

Look forward to reading about / seeing it. :yesnod:

You got it brother :)

JimmyBlack 07-22-2019 01:23 AM

Hey Brettus, I just noticed that you're using a T3 spacer between turbine housing inlet and the turbo manifold. If you're retaining the spacer with the new manifold I recommend you port the mani/spacer/turbine with a die grinder to get a smooth flow between manifold and turbine inlet. I ported a similar spacer on my old Greddy setup and it made a big difference.

What's the time frame for the new manifold?

Brettus 07-22-2019 03:01 AM

I just had that spacer made locally ... didn't have to port it out but I had to port the hell out of the turbine housing !
What new manifold ?

Don't you just use the whole liter per tankful on that Methanol beast?

Red line envy 08-15-2019 07:18 PM

I like it. I deleted my omp. Rebuild has never had an omp functional on it. Premix since day one. I'm trying to set up pre measured bottles so it's dump and go at the pump. No more awkward measuring in the trunk before pumping.

That's a 2L bottle (costs $84 :( ) so at 120:1 it lasts about 41/2 tanks .

I stick that beaker on top of the fuel bowser measure the premix, dump it in , dump in some E85 then some E10 petrol ..... It's not too bad.

LOL ....just put it there to show that the beaker had a stand ..... it sits on top of the puncture repair kit .

Is it worth dumping a bottle of Race gas or is it mostly gimmick.

Don't know much about it ..........but you certainly wont get anything from an octane boost in an N/A car if that is what you were asking?

Maybe not extra power but would it burn hotter? Could it be one way to keep carbon from building up? I just seen this stuff and was curious. Reading about a product only tells you what the manufacturer wants you to know. I like hearing from people who have tried it or similar products.

dannobre 08-18-2019 06:28 PM

Race gas actually burns slower than regular

That's what octane is all about. Thats why the petrochemical industry makes money... selling higher octane fuel to people because they think its "better"

It's only better if you need it... otherwise it is just throwing money down the drain

And don't get me started on octane boost products.... 🙄

Was thinking about this comment and whether there are actually any good reasons to retain a turbo Renesis engine vs a turbo REW in a street driven RX8 chassis.
Came up with these :

1/Everything works
2/Engine is very well behaved ....like a stock N/A engine but with double the power.
3/Fuel consumption and therefore range is stock (out of boost).
4/Renesis is limited to 400whp but ........... that actually is enough (for me anyway) . More and you need to think about replacing the rest of the driveline anyway.
5/EVERYTHING WORKS...PROPERLY!

Seems to me that it really is about having clear personal goals. If a reasonably reliable, well-mannered, OEM functioning DD is your goal..., all things considered...a well appointed FI Renesis is enough. :icon_tup:.

TeamRX8 08-20-2019 07:17 PM

I was actually referring to the turbo choice, but listed the rest of it to be factual.

But responding back, for a lower hp street car that needs to pass emissions I’d concede that, otherwise even if you aren’t turning the wick up all the way imo an REW with Adaptronic Select is still the way to go otherwise. Somethings function under your scenario, but not all things perfectly as you suggest. You have a lot of kluges and workarounds using a factory non-turbo street system where in the case of the Adaptronic it’s made to incorporate all the turbo stuff seamlessly. Not to say what you have doesn’t work, but look at what all you’ve been through to get there. The Renesis still has a lot of shortcomings as a turbo engine. It’s the better NA choice hands down, but in the same respect the REW is the better hands-down choice for turbo use.

Don’t give me that “I don’t need 25 psig boost reliably on street gas” baloney. Just go play with the other girls and their dolls already

I'm not sure what you think doesn't work perfectly?

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me they fitted the Adaptronic turbo REW (or Renesis for that matter) and everything works as good as stock............... including the way the engine runs .

Re the turbo ..... I'm actually seriously considering doing another setup (in another car) with an EFR7670 1.05 top mount.
