As far as I know, only 2 members have had issues.......

brokeapexseal- blow up his engine (sold the greddy turbo)
zoomzoom8's turbo seals were leaking and compressor wheel was hitting wall (rebuilding turbo).

From my own experience, if by "blowing up" you mean,
performing exactly as advertised, with no reduction in drvability, giving a big power gain across the board, for a very reasonable price, then I'd have to say yes. It is blowing up.

Kraji, Bottom line is give someone a Corvette a Mustang or a Rx8 and if you DON"T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING YOU COULD BLOW ANYONE OF THESE CARS ENGINES....I believe the RX-8 takes alittle more knowledge, but once you know what you are doing, It's like any other ENGINE..

I have learned alot from many guys from this Forum and Tuners in my area,(and I still am learning) But my car is running 9psi Boost (tuned) and running Great.... So as Adrian1 has said, Don't believe all the Bullshit, check out the forum and you will find many answers to your questions on FI and anything else on the RX-8. Just my two-cents....

All sarcasm aside, Greddyturbo1 is right. Any fool can blow an engine. But the Renesis is so strong, its probably kept quite a few fools from blowing it up! I really doubt that anyone would blow a Renesis if they kept the system like GReddy delivers it. Its really conservative - ~6psi and 9-10.5 AFR. There are cases of folks detonating above 10psi, with large turbos and not blowing anything. That's not to say that someone wouldn't have an engine failure while running the kit, but I tend to think that that engine would have to be on the weak side of the statistical distribution to begin with, and might blow a seal even if they had stayed NA. There have been quite a few of naturally aspirated seal failures. 6psi is nothing. And from everything we've heard, the seals in the Renesis are stronger than the previous seals have been.

I don't know why there are so many GReddy haters on the forum. But most of them haven't even seen the kit first hand, much less installed one on there own car. That's what really pisses me off. Everybody is a friggin expert on how bad the kit sucks. But the fact is, most of those who say "I'm so glad I didnt' get the GReddy", or "I'm waiting for XX XXX supercharger to come out" won't ever get FI. They don't have the cahones to do it. They just want to bash. But I know if they drove mine, they'd be crying in their beers about how smooth, powerful, and fun the car is. I wish I had done it the second the GReddy kit came out. I bet most of the other installs are the same way - seemless. To those people who have 0 first hand experience, who have picked up on the few problems that those people innovating with the GReddy turbo (and lets not forget that, the GReddy kit was the first to market, and laid the ground work for a few others who still aren't commercially viable) I say :madfawk: . I hope you enjoy the slowness of your car as much as I enjoy the seemless power that I have now.

You guys who have been tuning it and turning up the boost are getting 80-90HP peak gains, with full boost at like 3.5kRPM! Thats great! And the price is less than 3 grand!! I mean, c'mon people! WTF!

Actually I believe there are 3 or 4 who have blown up the Greddy.

Not one of them had it tuned properly or they had it over boosted. No gaurentee there.

I'm with Fanman. Haven't heard of anything other than bad bearings on zoomzoom8's turbo and Broke_Apex_Seal's broke apex seal.

I'm on the opposing side of Greddy turbo kit. And of course, I don't have it on my car.. I can understand how fun it could be,, but smooth and powerful???
I believe the tune out of the box is pretty rich and bumpy,, and ~240-280whp powerful? LOL
You've also mentioned since I'm bashing on the Greddy, I will never go near F/I.
We'll see who's the first to buy the PTP turbo kit.

It's about balance. Pure balance. 240-280whp for an 8 is good balance. UNLESS you are looking for straight line speed. The 8 was designed ground up for balance. Trust/Greddy understands that. Petit Racing understands that. Knight Sports understands that. You want better performce, keep 280whp, take out the back seats, get a carbon fiber trunk, hood, and fenders, and increase your wheel width.

Add power it just goes fast straight, reduce weight and braking, cornering, speed, and acceleration is all increased.

If you check the post i quoted, the guy does nothing but boasts how POWERFUL his 8 is with the allmighty Greddy kit. With shitty turbo and shitty fuel management system included in the kit, and the hp number it produces, I just don't see how this guy comes about boasting his car LOL. It just seemed funny to me.

excuse me? Re-read my post. Does nothing but boast about power? If you'll pay attention, I do nothing but tell people who have ZERO experience, like you, to stop offering up their utterly worthless opinions. When you drive a GReddy kit, that has been installed correctly, then you'll have something meaningful to add. Until then, your opinion means nothing.

My car is both smooth and powerful. As for the definition of power, my 8, with the "shitty fuel management" and "shitty turbo", is about 40% more powerful than your 8 while you continue to wait for the PTP kit. Notice that I don't talk at all about the GReddy kit being the most powerful, or the most sophisticated. Let me hightlight for you:

Notice that instead of talking about raw power added, I'm talking about the commercial viability, and HP/$. It is the perfect streetable kit for those of us who don't really care about dragging with our mullet-haired nephew-sons down across from the Wal-Mart parking lot.

If you want to turn the 8 into a dragster, you can 1) continue to wait for a huge turbo kit to become commercially viable. or 2) get a different car (dodge charger)for less $ than you'll end-up spending trying to convert the 8 into something its not.

I hope you enjoy the PTP kit. I am going to keep enjoying my GReddy kit. We have different goals, different budgets, and until that kit comes out, I'll have an 8 that feels incredibly powerful - compared to any 8 without FI - which includes you.

Go drive a GReddy. Then come back and tell us your thoughts.

yup I broke my engine and it was from the emanage and the way they tuned it and some odd **** they tryed to do. My car did not take to well to it. Greddys parts are great if you have the kit just get it tuned by someone that knows what is going on.
