Blitz Supercharger update?

Hi, has anyone read this? Just got this off this month's Banzai (Japanese Cars) magazine. It is about the Blitz supercharged Rx-8 P-touring.

" The Blitz supercharger kit was unveiled at the 2004 Tokyo Auto Salon and marketed by the company soon after. Using this new package, the P-touring (RX-8) recorded 225hp at 8100 rpm. Admittedly, that doesn't sound like much of an increase, especially when Mazda rates the high power engine as producing 210-250 bhp. On a dyno, though, Blitz discovered "the high power" rotary gave a reading of only 180 bhp; less than that claimed for the low power engine. Torque also leapt from 163.5 lb ft at 5000 rpm to 183.1 lb ft at 4400 rpm, underlining the supercharger's low-end forced induction capabilities."

Overall that is pretty disappointing. 45 whp & 20 lb.-ft. of tq. from a kit that is rumored to retail for $7K. I was really looking forward to this kit coming out as I think the roots type blower would be very good for this engine, but not at this power level, and not at that price point.

here we go again with the mxing of rated flywheel and wheel HP.

the P-touring (RX-8) recorded 225hp at 8100 rpm. Admittedly, that doesn't sound like much of an increase, especially when Mazda rates the high power engine as producing 210-250 bhp. the roots type blower is pretty small, so i'm surprised of the nominal increase. Besides we're looking at 45hp across the powerband, not just at the mid to high end. Nonetheless, with 45whp from starting at the moment you smash the pedal would put I pretty good smile on your face. I agree the pricetag is dam high though, hopefully greddys low price turbo kit would make it a little more competively priced. Sucks... why are superchargers more expensive that turbos?

Going on a tangent here, what about the petitt unit? Updates with that? Their kit might be a better option than the blitz version

Whoever said this thing would cost $7k? Who is making up these numbers? People said that about that Greddy kit too and it only cost $3k. As I said before, you can not correlate the cost in yen or overseas with what it will cost in dollars. It does not work like that.

Oh, and for the power, considering the size of the blower and the amount of boost it is only running, that is about what you would expect and pretty good. This will not be the upgrade for those who are truly power hungry.

That was the rumored retail price. Obviously the street price will be different. I mean Greddy's retail price is $4195, but the street price has been about $2900-$3000. But even if the Blitz unit comes out at $5K that is still way more expensive.

I never heard a street price of $7k. Where are you getting that?

It was referenced in one of the thread that had the picture of the kit with it, and it is about the price that several of there other kits are going for. Hopefully it will come out less given the small size of the SC, but then again the unit for the Celica is small as well and it is $7K (retail) as well.

Well in Singapore, the distributor quoted about $7000 (SGD) including installation.
That works out to be about $4375(US). Guess that is pretty steep for 225 at the wheel.

Can't believe it!

People keep mispelling words....
Compatibility or compatability?
LOL

Purchase or puschase? The R is far away from the S. No excuses...

hmm doesn't look like they have a front mount intercooler on these compressors like they do on their celica s/c. Probably means it be cheaper than some of the guesses up there. Looking at the kit, no way they're thinking they are getting more than 4k for that kit (and thats still too much). Looks so simple, I swear in some of the older pictures the compressor was larger. The size of my fist is bigger than the one depicted.

another update:

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our company. We greatly appreciate it. The part number for the 6 speed manual is #10151 and the auto is #10162 just in case. We are not selling the supercharger at this moment because we are currently producing a fuel management system for the kits. Thank you for your time.

Great find , does anyone know the type of Supercharger they intend to use ?
managed to find the part numbers but no info as to what type they are .

Parts
SC430 UZZ40 3UZFE
LS430 UCF30 3UZFE

Apparently they will have the supercharger with 3 different electronic settings for varied driving styles

The BLITZ® Compressor System was designed to give maximum horsepower and torque without sacrificing reliability and drive-ability. All BLITZ® Compressor units come complete - oiled filled and ready to install for trouble-free maintenance. All kits are designed to be highly responsive while maintaining fuel efficiency. The Compressor unit is electronically controlled by an activation switch 3 different settings (Low, Med. and High) - allowing the car to respond to the individual's driving style.

cheers
michael

don't hold your breath, from the figures mentioned this s/c isn't really that impressive. I'm just waiting to be surprised by the price.

As the JDM 8 only has one oil cooler, I believe that Blitz had used that space for the intercooler.

It does use a roots-type s/c.

Specs given when all the kits were under development showed the kit producing gains competitive with the GReddy turbo kit. About 60ps I believe. There are some translations and other posts made awhile ago regarding these details. Try a search.

I sent another e-mail to Blitz US about when their supercharger kits will be here in the US. the UK site shows two kits now, one for 6 speed and one for automatic transmissions.

http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/popupimage...CHRG&cod=10151
and
http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/popupimage...CHRG&cod=10162

10151 BLITZ SUPERCHARGER CONVERSION SE3P 13B-MSP 05/03- £3,749.00
10162 BLITZ SUPERCHARGER CONVERSION SE3P 13B-MSP 05/03- £3,749.00

I did not look up the conversion rate but it is about 5500 us.
it does not look like there is an ECU or piggyback with the kits.

Found on Ebay for less than $4500. The question still is has anyone tried it out? Is it emissions legal?
