Dear god I can't wait to see this thing finished. I'm really sorry to hear about issues with the shop. I've had my own issues with shops getting work done, and from what I understand getting any kind of major swap like this performed is running a big risk even from known shops. The time it takes to do the work is counted in years, not months or days and thats a lot of opportunity for things to go wrong or people to slack. In the end though if you are able to finally have the car you dreamed of, that is what matters and I think most of us are waiting along with you to see it. A 4-rotor RX-8 is about the most beastly combo I can think of to have on the street. Make sure you take a lot of pictures and more importantly video... we have to hear that 4-rotor sound.

Mad man Mike part 2! lol

Not everyone gets along and always someone gets screwed over. It happens. Sometimes it happens to the worst of us.
So Im guessing upward of 15k for all this to work fine and dandy? |
$15k?
by the time you throw in engine management etc. it's probably well north of $50k the dry sump front cover alone is $2500, plus there are a lot more expensive bits to buy to put it all together, etc. etc. custom fab work by someone else is more expensive than you care to know ... |
Yeah, a "mere" 20B swap is going to be 25k or more... I couldn't even hazard a guess on the cost to do a 4-rotor swap and there are precious few shops who would even take the job with a chance of actually finishing it. I doubt there are more than a couple 4-rotor RX-8s in the world (if that). I've seen one still in pieces at PF Supercars in Frederick MD but it is not even close to being done and from what I heard it has already been there a year.

even $50k is getting under!!!!! lol really expensive if you are going turbo and you do it the right way. you can cut lots of corners, but it will not be the proper way to get it done.:ylsuper: |
Oh ok, thats your car... hehe, then I have seen this car in person. Yeah, the engine is physically in the car at this point. I was checking out some of the other cars there when MazdaManiac and I were up there to dyno tune my car. We poked our heads in and I was like "omg thats a 4-rotor!" Good luck with your build man.

Ray was moving, but he is back working in the car. i'll post some pics soon.:ylsuper: |
Oh yeah, Ray did say he was moving his shop, but where? Hope it is still in Maryland.
26B RX8- Which rx8 is yours at PFS, They have a 3 rotor automatic 4 port bridgeport that was said to have put down 480whp???? at 8 psi, the video is on youtube. They also have a yellow one that is outside sometimes but it looks Turbo'd or something. I will soon have mine up there as well as soon as I get my hands on a 20b (hopefully sometime before spring next year) but Ray told me it would take a while because of the amount of work that is being done to all the cars up there. Hope everything goes well with the car. |
i was at pf supercars last weekend. just one word to describe that place.
nuts. 20b housings all over the place. 20bs all over the place. turbo 20bs in rx7s all over the place. at least 15 rx7s there. at least. i also saw 26b's rx8. nuts. beastly. i have a picture of myself next to the turbo. its the size of my head. the engine is in the car. they modified the cross member to get it to fit. they cut the top half off and welded in another piece so its only half the height where the engine sticks across it. its a crazy nice looking build. |
subscribed its gonna be a beast

Word is that Ray moved already.....that means that the 4 rotor is going to be worked on. i can not wait......... oil system is next!!!!!
i'll post pics as soon as I have new ones.:Eyecrazy: |
Just keep on him, Ray does good work personally, but he is really swamped with work, and his guys are not anywhere near his level. Since you are doing this build at all, I'm sure you know that it isn't going to be done quickly. Keep us posted with any updates!

I can't wait till Ray finishes your 26B build. Hope everything goes well
|
enjoy!!

I do not know, maybe because it is my car, but this engine bay is going to be bad as hell..............................
All the intake/turbo clamps will be Wiggins clamps, not those that are there now.:naughty::SHOCKED: |
Damn Dude, thats one beast of an engine bay. Just looking at the engine bay reminds me of why such a build is costly, but "for the best" is what I always say, in reference to built cars lol. Street driven, not daily right, haha? Simply insane........

I hope it is done soon, It will be something out of this world!!!!!:ylsuper: I'm still trying to get it through my head that this car is "suitable" for the streets. I don't know what to say other than I can't wait until this freakin thing is finished! I thought a 20B+ turbo would be good enough for the street but this is just another level. Gooooood Luck again dude. |
thank you.
It should be easier to drive than a 4 rotor na and I saw one driving around pretty good. It should be alot less noisy. let way and see. |
