I am an oddball at this site owning an FD, but everyone seem's to except me . No motor profiling (racial profiling, get it? lol) and I like that! Anyways which lucky RX8 owner wants to guess how much it will cost to put a 2JZ in my FD. If I dont go this route I will stick with the cold bottle of 13BREWED rotary.

FD (2,700) + 2JZ BPU+++ Power FC Tuned = Bad *** f*cking weekend warrior

 

I don't know why you would want to do that.

And many of us own or are former RX-7 owners.

 

No rebuild, bad *** reliability, unique, bragging rights, top end monster while maintaining sleeperessence..

cost: more than stuffing an LS1 in there.

just go trade it in the fd for a supra

 

There are quite a few FD's with 2JZ's in them... it's a decent 8-10k job if done well with a decent amount of power upgrades.

 

Yup its been dont since before 2001. nothing too original. Drop a 3 rotor in there or if you just have to ditch the rotors then put an LSx engine of some sort in it. They have even have kits to do that. Much more usable power then the 2jz too. I love the 2jz, dont get me wrong, but leave it in the supras. Once again, i ask why take the R out of RX? Oh well, too each his own. You want insane power minus rotors then put in an LS1 and supercharge it. That would be an insanely fast car.

 

I personally think its a great idea! If it's only 10k I would consider doing it. The 2jz is a great motor. I would love to have a Supra, but at almost $50k I can't afford it. This is definitely the next best thing. Keep us posted on the progress.

He is the only one I know that has done it with the stock hood. But putting a piston motor in a RX is un-natural, specially in a FD. I just cring when I think about it.

 

Another vote for a LS# engine, if you must do a motor swap. Lighter with a broader powerband. Sure, you can talk about peak HP, but what good does it do you if you can't put it to the ground. Besides, there's no reason why you couldn't put FI on a LS motor.

 

i'd go for the 4.2 straight 6 before an ls1. lighter, cheaper, newer technology, better gas milage, MUCH easier to turbo if you want a lot of power, etc.
