Luck for me I have a small motorola that fits in my visor in one of the squares. Since the visor has holes I can always hear it ring, untill I get my system :)

I keep my cell in the cup holder.

in my pocket.. w/ bluetooth wireless headset ;)

w0rm 12-02-2004 08:38 AM

I actually put mine up behind the steering wheel infront of dash from time to time when I'm waiting on an important call. (I usually just keep it in my pocket and dont pick up while driving).

It fits right to the left of the MPH indicator and doesnt block any gauge readouts, and i can see the LCD light up real easy when a call comes in.

mdekkers 12-02-2004 02:18 PM

in the ashtray - I have the motorola v3 razr, and it fits perfectly, and it's also handy when I need to charge it. I use it with a logitec bluetooth headset.

I got this handy dandy mount at Auto Zone for about 10 bucks that attaches with two sided tape and put it to the dash right behind the turn signal. I use the speakphone function when I can.

Gheist 12-03-2004 12:37 PM

Leave the cell in the cup holder. Have a bluetooth speakerphone which clips onto the driver's sunvisor. That way I can answer all incoming calls. It's a little inconvenient for dialing, but hey, I probably shouldn't be dialing anyway.

I got that same clip
but I put in on the pillar where is says SRS

Sin,

PAul, that's got to be the best looking solutin for the Treo600, but it's $30 for the mount (shown) and $30 more for the Treo-holder (or $70 more if you want a holder which swivels with your charging cable).

I don't use it much in the car, but I like to have mine charging with the earpiece plugged in so I can answer it if I must. I dislike having it in the cup-holders and so I'd like a mount so I don't have to let it slide around on the passenger seat (where it inevitably slides far enough to unplug).

Anyone else want to share a cool mounting solution for their Treo?

moete87 06-09-2006 03:15 PM

Clip my phoneclip to my sunvisor, easiest way to answer calls!!!

Agreed - hands free is mandatory.

I gave up on belt loops though and just keep the phone in my pocket - unless I'm driving. I like to use the charger while driving too so it would be nice to have a good mount like antichristpm showed. Something that allows use of charger and headset and holds the phone so I can see the touch-screen.

If the best mounting solution is $100 I'd probably be happier in the long run to upgrade my (non-BlueTooth) Treo600 to a Treo700 and get the BlueTooth headset. Then I could have the Treo charging in the center console while I drive.

DRKSYDE 07-16-2006 08:22 PM

For anyone interested in the Pro Clip I am a dealer for them and may be able to do a group buy for a fair amount less. I offered it to some folks participating in a rally. Lemme see if I can dig up some pics.

DRKSYDE 07-16-2006 08:37 PM

I am a dealer for PRO CLIP which makes mounting options for electronic gadgets from Video Screens, to iPods, to cell phones.

The normal price for the RX8 Mount and SWIVELING bracket is $60. I am offering it to anyone including miata owners who may be interested for $40.00 and I will bring them to the meet with me.

I will post some pictures of my own later tonight. I just hooked up G-Force with one the other day and he LOVES it.

You can PM me the make model year of your car and the device you are interested in using it with.

Here is the link for the two mounts that are available.

Thanks!

I've been using Proclip for a couple years and in my 8 for 3 months. Awesome solution and I wish I could have gotten it for the discount offered above.

At any rate, the only thing I didn't like is it doesn't include a charging solution as I can't stand having the cig lighter dc charger for my blackberry. I fixed that this weekend by 'dis-assembling' the dc charger and direct wiring a cable from behind the cig ligther up behind the proclip mount to my b(i used the guts of the dc charger to downconvert the 12v to 5v [usb standard]). Only thing I need now is a 'left-angle' usb cable to make the plug less auspicious.

If anyone's interested I'll post photos -

DRKSYDE 07-24-2006 10:36 PM

Gregg Please post pics... Would be interested.

I can get you that right angle USB if you want. Motorola makes them for the RAZR and their other USB charged phones. Not sure on price.

I keep mine in my pocket because I like to feel it vibrate against my bare skin. Did I mention I don't wear pants when I drive?

All these fancy dancy setups...I put mine in the ashtray near the lighter since i'm a non smoker. :)

Although I've got a bluetooth earpiece, I'm going to get a GPS soon with integrated bluetooth cell support. So, completely hands and earpiece free.

Moostafa29 07-25-2006 09:49 AM

I keep mine in my left pocket.

2nd that - I'd like to see the photos (hint - dust your console first) :mdrmed:

DRKSYDE hooked me up with the deal above - substantial discount from how I originally priced it out (two piece RX-8 + Treo solution was about $100 - got hooked up for $49.99).

Nice tip on the direct wire gregg - I hadn't thought of that. Did you pull the cig lighter out the front or reach in through the back? I'm an EE so the soldering/crimping/whatever is no problem. I just hate fighting to take apart plastic stuff without breaking it.

NO PICKING ON MY DUSTY DASH COOL BLUE OR I'LL RECHARGE YOUR CARD! :nono:

LOL Just kidding, but those pics were taken after an hour drive in March in New England with the windows down and sunroof open. You know how dusty it is just after winter! I actually carry one of those little Swiffer dusters with me. Fits great in the door pocket!

Guys, I can hook you up with not only Pro Clip but nearly ANY Cell Phone accessory you can think of.

Cool Blue, hope you get your PC soon!

SiLVeRE8 07-25-2006 05:09 PM

this is where i put my cell... i bought this for $10 and it turned out to fit perfectly between the air vents and on top of the double parking button. i also have one of these next to my bed. LOL

Got this kit at the dollar store. Maybe after I get a new phone I'll go for one of the fancier setups. :)

Yeah, simple is good and cheap is good - but if you carry a PDA you would love to upgrade to a Treo. Then you might want a sturdier mount and so forth. +1 for most economical solution.

Dollar Store inventory is hit-or-miss though. I did shop for some cheap brackets I could glue into place, but nothing was quite right for my somewhat stout Treo.

Personally, I'm the most jealous of the folks who can get their tiny phones into the sun visor or sunglasses case, but I'll never give up my PDA+phone.

ScreaminRX8 07-26-2006 01:10 PM

I use my Sun glasses holder for mine

Design1stCode2nd 08-11-2006 02:19 PM

I have a Bluetooth headset for mine so I keep it in the center console behind the cup holders and the headset on my ear.

SethSpeed 08-11-2006 05:40 PM

Cellphone goes in the cupholder compartment (closed) and I make/answer calls via a bluetooth headset. I keep the headset in the ashtray compartment when I am not using it.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check on the Motorola solution. Actually, because of the directon of the mini usb in my Blackberry I actually need a left angle vs. right angle plug. I'll post pictures of the setup.

Where do you put your cell phone?

I put my Samsung cell phone in the ashtray compartment. I removed the ashtray container and put the red plastic screen on the top of the ashtray compartment so at night there is still a red light in the ashtray compartment to illuminate my phone. Removing the ashtray container gives me room to put the phone in and close the door and I can still hear it ring.

I guess I'll sift for a DIY. :scratchhe It's beginning to seem worth the trouble. I've had the door open on my ashtray for months now, I'd really like to see it closed again (I have such a low frustration tolerance ;) ).

DRKSYDE, I've been using my Pro-Clip for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. What a fantastic holder. I really appreciate how ruggedly it's mounted. Yeah, it swivels if I want, but it doesn't swing loose, slide or pop off for other handling or regular driving. If I'm stopped I can still reach over and two-hand type a TXT message. Thanks again for hooking me up with the discounted price too.

bobafpe 09-06-2006 02:29 PM

Yeah, I agree. If you can't close the ashtray door, that's not the place for your phone.

on my belt above and to the right of my right rear pocket. Right between the seat and seatbelt is where it is.

Is that a convenient spot? I typically like mine to have the headset plugged in just in case I need it (rare, but there's times).

Personally, convenience aside - I wouldn't wear it there because I wouldn't want the phone crushed between me and the seatbelt in a crash. Perhaps yours is small enough or situated just right so that's not a significant risk, but it's something to consider.

BunnyGirl 09-07-2006 10:05 AM

I just put my phone in the cup holder. I don't talk on it when I am driving anyway but it is handy if there is an emergency.

Actually it fits between the seat belt and the seats right side edge. I can't see it interfering with the seat belt in a crash situation. It is right behind the seat belt latch but it does not touch it. I don't get many calls when I am in the car and if I am expecting one I will take it out and set it in the ashtray.
I appreciate the concern ,,,thank you.

glassetcher 10-10-2006 05:37 PM

Cool-Blue-Dad - Did you find the swivel mount was necessary. The description of the ProClip for the RX-8 says it is angled for proper viewing by the driver. Would the less expensive standard fixed holder work just as well?
