Weird Problem with Metra LCD Display

YES! I searched and all I could find were posts about needing an update to 1.4.
I just installed the Metra Kit with a Pioneer Double din and everything is working really well, except for the LCD display in the dash. It flashes when it is cold as if a cable is loose (i used electrical tape around the cables to hold them into the Axxees box). Also the display doesn't show the correct time but the clock does work, and the HVAC controls do no work, but I can control the intensity of the fan and the temp. The display does not change the little icons though and the direction of the airflow doesn't change either , i.e no defroster. The ambient outside temperature is also stuck on 33f and the AC light doesn't turn on green if I press it (and doesnt do anything if I press it either). I plan to get the 1.4 update, but I want to make sure that I don't have a bad box either.

Also, the HVAC and LCD worked fine before with the stock headunit.

thanks!

that's a lot of issues for one firmware... probably a bad unit.

I'm having similar problems, but not immediately. If I unplug the Metra axxcess box and then plug it back in, everything works perfectly for a few days (I have to reset the clock but it remembers the other settings, and all the controls work and the temperature display works). Then after a while it stops working, the temp is stuck at the last temp it registered, and basically it behaves just like yours. Though the clock continues to work.

Did you get any resolution?

Thanks, I haven't figured it out yet, and it's too cold here to work for extended periods of time on the car, so when it begins to get warmer out I am going to take it out and try hooking up all of the wires again.

You both have the same problem. The outside temperature and the HVAC status come from the car to the Metra box on one wire. Either the board is not receiving the signal properly (unlikely), or you have a bad wire or contact in the extension harness (likely). The signal comes in to the box on pin 4 of J1. J1 is the leftmost connector on the end of the box that has 3 connectors. Pin 4 is on the bottom row, second from the left.

If you can't find a broken wire in the extension harness, the problem is most likely the female contact in the harness. Try wiggling the connector as it attaches to the box and see if the HVAC information on the display follows the HVAC button presses. If you can't find anything to fix with the extension harness, ask Metra tech support for a new one.
