few things...

i really wouldnt mount the unit that high up. the benefit you'd get from being able to "see" over hills is neglible if you're going faster than 15mph. and cops do aim for the bumper area. and if the eye is behind those dots, consider it worthless.

i've had trouble getting suction cups to stick to those ceramic dots on the windshield...does it ever fall?

some one should figure out how to run the out from that audio box to the navigation audio input. that way i wont miss alerts when i'm rocking out

its not behind the Dark tint its under it.. it has a great shot of the road. and is up high Like the units Specs call for. It has an awsome range. And because the Dispaly is mounted in the Center console Radio Area its very easy to see and Hear every Bogie.. No supprises there.
Also the V1 needs to see thru the Rear window to. It does this very well.

As for the Suction cups.. You have to use the big ones that come with the unit and the window has to be clean.

taken from the V1 site

Where to mount

Valentine One works best when mounted high in the
windshield, and toward the center between the windshield
pillars. Use your choice of windshield or visor mounts.

• When properly mounted, the
front antenna will look

forward through the glass. It must have an unobstructed
view. Don’t put it behind the parked windshield wipers,
or directly behind an in-glass antenna. Don’t position it
so that it "looks" into the rearview mirror.

• The
rear antenna will look rearward, between

passengers and out the rear glass. It, too, must have an
unobstructed view.

Detector performance is enhanced by a high mounting

position. Two reasons. For radar, a longer sight line to
the horizon always helps. For laser, moving away from
the hood and its sun reflections helps a lot.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Windshield heaters such as Ford’s
InstaClear
® block radar from passing through the glass (look

for a brown tint). So do
solar barrier windshields of the type

used on GM Venture-Montana-Silhouette-Trans Sport
minivans and on some imported luxury sedans (look for a
reddish or copper tint). Same for mirrored sun screens.

Detector performance will be greatly reduced when V1 is
mounted behind such metallic films.
SAFETY WARNING: Because a detector on a windshield
mount or visor mount is not permanently attached to the
car, it could come loose in a crash, possible causing injury.

Also, a passenger may move forward on impact and contact
the detector. Keep these possibilities in mind when you
mount your Valentine One.

Yes, the ability to "see" over hills is a bit overated. But in a sports car like the RX8, the higher on the windshield you can mount it (without it's view being blocked, of course), the better chance you have of receiving radar through the windows of the vehicle in front of you.

This seems to be a very popular myth, about California recently outlawing radar detectors. I have yet to figure out how it started.

I just poset this in another detector thread. This was simple. I mounted the direct power adapter on top of the foot rest. Wired it directly into fuse box (cigarette lighter). I then ran the phone cord up behind the door rubber to the top of the dash. The concealed display is tucked in the corner of the dash to the far left just behind the windshield. For those in New Jersey, it's just under the inspection sticker. You can't really see it from outside. The other phone cord then goes behind the windshield air bag up to the headliner. Behind the headliner to the back of the rear view mirror. The dectector is mounted to the windshield just above the mirror. This also can not be seen from outside. The whole thing took 5 - 10 minutes and is very stealth. It also comes on when I start the car. You can't beat this quick install!

I almost have the exact same arrangement, except I have the remote display on top of the steering column, just in front of the gauges. Easy and well-concealed. The V1 suction cups work fine on the dotted windshield material above the rear-view mirror.

Hey, is there any way to program the V1 so it doesn't chirp on start-up? I like to crank the volume on my V1 to drown out the stereo, but when I do that I get this horrible set of beeps every time I start the car. Bugs me, so I have to turn it down whenever I start the car, then turn it up again to drive. I sent an e-mail about it to Mike Valentine back when that was possible but, surprise surprise, the company never responded.

Hard 8, Have you checked your manual for something like "abreviated startup" or something like that? I have the 8500 x50 and it can be done - I read in one of the comparo reviews that many of the things that could be preset on the 8500 could also be done with the V1 but that they had to look harder to figure out how to do it with the V1. In that case they were talking about the band defeat feature but the same might apply to the startup.

I have the V1 with the concealed display. To answer some previous question, concealed display is so other drivers as well as cops don't see blinking lights on your detecter. Example, I'm coming home from a bar (SOBER!) in North New Jersey. Cop follows me for about 2 miles and we hit a red light (he is behind me) so as a joke he starts turning his radar on/off (he saw the detector) since it didn't light up like a Christmas tree he stopped. Don't forget about Laser...got hit by one on 287 exit 47 in NJ. Luckily, I was driving like a grandma and yes, the V1 alerted me but in no way would I have avoided a ticket if I was speeding.

https://www.rx8club.com/audio-video-94/v1-radar-concealed-display-mounted-40808/

MY cost to do the Mod is $25.00 plus all the parts. If you have the V1 display then you can send it to me. if not i will buy it from V1 at there cost. Price: $39.00 + shipping

and then the Mp3 Blank to install the V1 in .. i have in stock, price $ 45.00

So the total price if you need me to supply the V1 Conceald display

$109.00 + shipping.

I can start this ASAP.. let me know. you can Pay Pal me or even give me a credit card number.
