Using only red back-lights on dashboard at night???

I got a new RX-8 and I love almost everything about it.... the body shape is sleek, the engine is fast, the handling is amazing..... but if I could change anything, I'd like to see the instrument cluster have a bit more of a 'stealthy' night time appearance.....
Any ideas on how to deactivate the blue LED's that illuminate the front of the dashboard cluster leaving only the red back-lit numbers on the display? Is there a simple way to remore the clear plastic shield that covers the guages and the blue LED's so that the LED's can be covered and then the shield put back in place? Maybe some EASY wiring trick I could try?

Thanks !

i prefer to keep mine on the white/black mode. I don't really care about stealth... but more about visibility.

You could search the cable that feed this leds behind the steering wheel, I think its a ground and the colour is yellow, i searched a few months ago,to feed a neons at the same time in my car,if you find it and cut it,this leds it doesn't work, you could repair this cut in the future

yea he did, look at the temp gauge. haha

I tend to like the blue/red instrument cluster at night, keep the whole thing dark. I use the white when I'm tired though.

I actually do the same thing. I wish there was a way to make the red a little brighter though. If you have it on red when there is still a little light left, its really hard to see.

Hey, BigO sets his trip to zero when he fills up with gas too. I wonder if Rx-8'rs are the only ones that do that every time?

I used to do that on my Bonnieville. It had a horrible gas gage. I do it with the 8 as well.......

I always did that with every car I owned, not just the RX-8.

Huh??
My idle goes to about 2.5K when I first turn mine on...it then drops down to about 1100 when it's warm

Love the blue / red at night, because it's not too blinding. Nice and subtle
