Took my new 05 key fob (for my 04) to home depot and machine wouldn't cut it

Took my new 05 key fob (for my 04) to home depot and machine wouldn't cut it

It was wierd... it would cut one of their generic keys but not my 05 key fob. where did you guys get your cut and has anybody else run into this problem...

dealership...just walk in, straight to the parts department and ask...they did it for free for me if your nice I bet they'll cut it for you for free

after cutting, they have to key code your numbers onto the new key

if you are far away from a dealership (ie rural area) you can go to just about any locksmith/security company...they can do it and do it well

Home depot has a proprietry system that 9/10 will only cut keys they sell...which is ANNOYING but guarantees no errors pretty much

Walmart's system is non-proprietry, can cut the 05 key...but I wouldn't trust a single Walmart employee in this entire nation to cut it

I went and try to get my keys cut at Home Depot and didn't work, machine won't even run but works perfectly with their own keys. So ended up taking it to a regular locksmith and it worked.

there was a key kiosk in the mall where they hand cut... problem solved thanks guys

That's kinda odd that Home Depot couldn't do it. I would think all of them have the same machine because I had mine cut for free (somehow) at Home Depot and it worked like a charm.
