DIY: How To Change The Radio Console Lights

** WARNING ** Trying to recover the broken images **

Now turn on your lights.

So, what do you see?

If you did not replace your console with something else like a screen, you should see "RED", a whole lot of red lights, right?

Well, I decided to replace all those red lights.
Yeah, thats right, all the lights. (all but one light)

So what color did I choose you ask yourself.

They are now "GREEN"!!!!!!

*****The DIY Section******

(1) remove the center console
- watch this video for that

(2) now go inside and place the console on something soft so you do not scratch it
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/56/0001ex.th.jpghttp://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1593/0002li.th.jpg

(3) now remove the 4 screws and the jack to take off the face plate
http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/902/0003v.th.jpghttp://img413.imageshack.us/img413/3416/0004gm.th.jpg

(4) remove the volume, text, and tune knobs by just pulling them forward
http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/3514/0005wk.th.jpg

(5) remove all the little screws that hold down the black protective piece and the board
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5696/0006dx.th.jpg

(6) remove the black protective piece and the 2 jacks from the board
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/4439/0007sr.th.jpg

(7) disconnect the jack to the hazard lights
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/4768/0008vp.th.jpg

(8) now set the board to the side for now

(9) remove the 4 screws that are on top and the 2 screws that are on the bottom
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/4450/0009an.th.jpghttp://img688.imageshack.us/img688/8462/0010uf.th.jpg

(10) remove the A/C control and pull off the two knobs
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/711/0011i.th.jpg

(11) there are three little tabs on each side that you need to press-in to take off the cover to the controlers
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/4227/0012ne.th.jpghttp://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9711/0013dg.th.jpg

(12) now remove the 4 little screws to take off the center cover
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6741/0014uv.th.jpg

(13) gentlly press the two tabs/lips to remove the board
http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/7818/0015l.th.jpg

(14) once the board is released disconnect the 3 jacks
http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/2782/0016p.th.jpg

(15) there is a total of 4 surface mount leds and 28 3mm leds on the main board
- desolder all of those but only one at a time so you do not mess up the polarity of the leds and replace with the color that you want
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/3...9163453.th.jpg

(16) there is a total of 17 3mm leds but only 15 of them you should change because there is two that are white for the red/blue temp control
- desolder the 15 only one at a time so you remember the polarity of the leds and then replace with the color you want
http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/453/p1010024x.th.jpghttp://img195.imageshack.us/img195/9...010025i.th.jpghttp://img841.imageshack.us/img841/338/p1010028s.th.jpg

(17) and now simply put the pieces back together in the reverse order

Here are some before and after pics

Yeah, my plan is to change ALL interior lights to green.
That also includes the ones in the; HUD, gauges, ect.

JessiahC 09-26-2010 12:25 PM

Can you attach the pictures? My webfilter is blocking the ones you have up.

blamerobb 09-26-2010 12:37 PM

Make a diy.

Saw them in your album, looking very nice.

To attach pictures, just click post reply, and then the 'manage attachments' button under the additional options.

Edit: Yes, please do make a DIY so I can change mine to blue! :D

To each their own

Jedi54 09-27-2010 11:11 AM

your interior lighting reminds me of my 1999 Ford Explorer. (all green )
not sure if that's a good thing though...

9krpmrx8 09-27-2010 11:22 AM

Good job, I like red though :) But yeah Lurch or something like that from the East Coast did this years ago. He even did the gauge pod.

ripigs 09-27-2010 05:25 PM

Well I did not find anything about this so I gave it a try.
I just thought that yous would like to make your 8 more personalized.

Jedi54 09-27-2010 05:28 PM
