Question KPU 41805 vs. KPU 41788

OK guys, I'm confused here I have a 2004 ST (build 12/03).

FCC I.D. KPU 41805
I.C. 4238A-12076
Visteon 41848

Every switchblade key on ebay is KPU 41788. Will one of these work for me or not? I don't understand zoom44's answer above because the links don't work anymore. The only thing I could find at autotransponder.com with KPU 41805 is the one that I already have (no switchblade/key). I think what I've read says the FCC ID has to match what you have for it to work. Thanks for any input

my numbers were/are different for my '04 (born 11/03) and the switchblade has been working fine for around a year now... I did have to get a new battery for it about 6 months ago, but that's probably because the switchblade was sitting on a shelf for a couple years before I bought it.

Buy this one http://www.autotransponder.com/2005-...tegory_id=1218

It WILL work. Works on my 04. Most of the ones on ebay and elsewhere are not the right kind. They don't work.

You can get new ones on eBay for about 40 bucks cheaper.

Ok, so here's my situation, tell me if this is exactly what I have to do.

I only have one key and one remote for my 04 rx8. ( my dealer sucked) so this is what I should do...

1. Get a new key made
2. Buy the switchblade remote off ebay
3. Program the switchblade remote
4. Cut the new key.
5. Put it in the remote.

Right?

I'm also kind of confused on why people are having trouble programming there keys with these numbers. Help someone

Edit: I'm not sure if this matters, but the remote I have now, I bought off ebay and programmed myself. It's your standard 04 rx8 remote.

If you only have one key you are going to HAVE to get the dealer to at least program one more key for you. If you want 3 keys total then they can cut and program another standard key for you, OR you could simply have them cut and program the switchblade key.

To do the DIY key programming you must have at least two working keys. You can do the remote by yourself though.

OEM Mazda switchblade key from ebay arrived today! Had it cut at ACE Hardware for 2 bucks. Programmed it in like 30 seconds. Everything works perfectly. I love it when a plan comes together. $47 bucks total

Mazda can suck it with their $200 key

Switchblade key.

Hi everyone, I've got a few questions...

- I'm reading different things... is the old FCC id (KPU41805) compatible with the switchblade (KPU41788)? or will I have to buy 2 fobs and make one out of the parts?

- If I buy the switchblade key and successfully mate it to my 04 will the older remote and keys still work or will I be restricted to the new set?

Anybody know why the original ones drop dead in the first place?

adding a switchblade does not invalidate your existing keys. I don't recall a limit to the FOBs... they learn the cars code not the other way around (I htink).

There is a limit on keys though... at some point (possibly 7 or 9) old key codes get overwritten with the new ones.

Ok guys well I want to do this for 2004. I'm confused by what you mean for needing two keys to do the program yourself. I have a 2004 that I bought used. I only have one wireless remote but I have two physical keys to start the car and unlock the doors. Does this mean that the only thing I need to order is this item??

Thanks for your help.

The switchblade key comes in two pieces, the key (with the chip embedded in it) and the remote (fob). As long as that unit has both the fob and key blank (you'll have to have it cut), then that's all you need. In order to program a key, you need to have already 2 existing keys. In order to program a remote, you need only one key.
