The sunroof in my 2004 RX-8 tends to rattle when open/raised, especially at very low speeds (backing up, etc.) I could actually see it vibrating the other day. Is this a common issue or am I special?

 

Unfortunately, you are not special (j/k) You are just not special with regards to the sunroof issue. The rattle is caused by a guide pin and a cam. Mazda released a SB for it. A copy can be found here thanks to the wonderful folks down at Rosenthal. I printed out a copy of the SB and brought it with me when I went in for warranty work. They replaced the rails and I have not been plagued by that annoying rattle since.

Yes, the sound is what caused me to look up and notice it vibrating.

And thanks for the Rosenthal link above! I took a look at all of their service bulletins and found a few others that might apply. It's too bad the customer has to request these instead of Mazda just fixing them!
