Steering wheel Leather damage
My Dad let our RX-8 (my car) be driven by a women with long findernails. After her ride the steering wheel has cuts and scraps all over the top and bottom hand grip positions.
It feels bad and distracting when driving as the wheel slide through your hands. Has anyone experienced this and what would be a way to smooth these rough cut-spots out with causing further damage like leather discolorations etc.
Any ideas or remedies. It is a messy situation, I can't make to big a fuss. I need that rotary ride but want the "feel-back-in-my-wheel"!!
Great,
Jeff B.

I would recommend getting some good leather care cream, you can get it at any Autoparts store (Advance, Pep Boys even). I have had good luck with Meguiar's and Lexol on my 8 and my wife's Tribute. If there is an actual cut or tear then it is not going to help you, but it will condition it and help get rid of small imperfections.
If it is damaged, a new wheel is very expensive. An option would be to see if you can get the wheel recovered if it bothers you that much. An upholstery shop can do that, or you can buy kits, I believe one place is wheelskins (online). I bought one many years ago for my Ranger, it held up well and was easy to install, the stiching and fit won't be as nice as stock but it is all a trade-off if you want your smooth wheel back. Try the treatment first, it may solve your issue.
