Speaker size?

Crutchfield site shows the 04 nonbose RX8 to take 5 1/4 components for rear and door. I see others on here saying 6x9, 6x8 etc. What size do i need for the speakers?

Yeah inquiring minds want to know! Funny-I was just at that site wondering the same thing 2 minutes ago.

What are you thinking of going with Rowdy? I was considering the Infinity coaxials and the basslink. I don't need the big thump, just clear with decent bass. I also want to put in the Sirius starbase.

Non-Bose drop-in sizes: 6x8 front, 6x9 rear. Anything else is wrong listing.

With an adapter plate, you will be able to fit a 5 1/4 in the front - but why? If you go the adapter plate route, get a 6 1/2.

Funny thing is, except for your Sirius install, I was thinking of doing the same thing you were thinking about.

I recently duplicated the recommendations in this
thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/dramatically-improved-audio-%24150-32329/
(Thanks a lot "bureau13").

I'm pretty happy; it was certainly worth the time
and money. It seems to me that upgrading the rears
was the more dramatic improvement over stock though.
(Also, they are easier to do).

Anyway, for the fronts I discovered that the 6.5" Infinity 6000cs fits just perfectly in Crutchfield's "6x8 to 5 1/4" adaptor plate. Well, you need to drill new holes in the plate
to align with the attachment holes on the speaker, but otherwise it was basically bolt in.
Obviously this may or may not work with other 6.5's.

I put in the 6x8 infinity components in the front, 6x9 3-way Polk speakers in the back, and the difference is incredible. I made holes for the tweeters through the door sail panels, and they look nearly stock, even matching the silver/black interior. The door interiors were a bit of a pain to remove at first. I have no idea how to undo those clips besides just ripping them off, usually breaking one or two in the process. Also, those clips holding the rear speaker covers were a pain, so I broke some of those, but I haven't heard any rattles, so I think it should be ok.
