Sparco Seat & Seat Base

Hi,
I looked through the seat thread here & also in the race forum but couldn't find any specific info on the subject.

Does anyone know of or have any direct experience using Sparco's seat & seat base combo & it's fitment in the rx-8? Also, were you able to retain the OEM seatbelt system? The seats will hopefully be going in my GT. Any info is greatly appreciated & please be descriptive as possible.

Thank you for looking!

in most applications, its rare to find a base that fits perfect, many have to be modified.

Bucket seat and 3 point seatbelt don't get along together.
Airbags and different bases are bad as well.

Io can get a bride or a nagisa seat rail to fit anyway.

The sparco base fits just fine. I did have to enlarge one of the holes slightly, but besides that all was good. I had a sprint series, and it worked ok with the belt, it took a couple tries before I got the routing right. Its a great investment for sure. Make sure you get a seat that fits you properly; I installed the sprint then had to take it out several months later cause I got fat

Your PM was sent back. I do not believe the "Sparco"/Wedge brackets will work for you. Having a sun roof and being six feet tall I would would start looking other places for a lower bracket.

I am short, do not have a sun roof and only have about two inches of clearance from the roof. I like those brackets cuz they made them for both sides of the cars but there are other alternatives.

didn't think about the sun roof, that may be an issue. I got my car without one because there is no chance in hell I could fit in it with a helmet on if I had one. Though from my experience with the sparco brackets, I don't know how much lower they can be made. It already sits directly on the brace that runs across the floor of the car. The only way I can think to have more room is to run without sliders, but getting in and out of the car would be a MAJOR pita (I am 6 feet tall and had to slide the seat back every time I wanted to get out)

I could not get it to work in my car. I have the pro2000 seat mounted directly to the floor. This seemed to work best for my application with is a fully caged race car with only one driver. Most prefabricated seat mounts seem to place the seat and driver way too high in the car. I also tried a different base made by Planted - same issue.

Stock belts will likely not work in a fixed seat but might in a two piece.

I recently had all of my interior out to better facilitate the painting of my cage. For the purposes of someone searching for seat mounting options and wanting a visual aide, I attached some pictures of my mounting solution that involved a bit of fabrication. The car is a race car and not street driven. The seat bracket "slides" by unbolting it; I am the only driver.

Check out my thread:

Planted tech seat bracket. Direct bolt in (pics in thread). Use with ANY aftermarket rail or side mounts. No fabrication or modification needed.

Dave - just saw your post - what trouble did you have with the Planted bracket?

It fit well and my brackets worked; however, I was seated too high to wear a helmet. I'm 5'10".
