sirius + ipod + bose

Hey all,

Just got my RX-8 on Friday, 04 GT, and I've really never been happier with any vehicle, except of course - the sound. Quite a culture shock actually. So, while I'm fiddling around with what I'm going to do with the speakers/sub (I've seen some great posts on this) I wanted to check my options for sirius and ipod connectivity.

The options I've seen include: the PIE Maz/alp aux converter solution, aux mod basic, and the icelink that doesn't seem to exist yet.

What I'd like to do is be able to have both the sirius receiver and the ipod hooked up together and be able to switch from one to the other. The two solutions I have are

1) PIE to soundgate AUX3 and hardwiring the switch into my console somewhere
2) PIE for say Sirius and auxmod basic for the ipod (thus, hit the cd button twice to get to sirius, hit the tape/MD button for ipod. (or icelink on one, etc...)

My question is this, I haven't seen much mention of the in dash 6 cd changer on this topic, and I'm wondering if, even though I have this, I still have the cd changer output on the headunit?

Do you guys see any reason why I couldn't use both kits so that I don't have to drill a switch into my console? Other options?

I'm not wild about the additional input on the icelink as you have to unplug the ipod to use it.

Anyhow, thanks in advance

also, if anyone knows of a performance mod to get the mileage up to around 40mpg that would be great oh, right, wrong forum for that.

Yeah, I wonder if its possible to make a splitter for the CD Changer Port to connect the PIE adapter and the Audio Link Ipod Interface Kit.

The Audiolink has an Aux in where you can hook up the Sirius to it. It will transmit the signal that has sound from it.

Right, that's I think what I was confusing with the icelink, or they're somehow related, my problem is I'd like to do some slick input switching in dash rather than having to unplug the ipod, power off the sirius etc, which is what brought me to my two choices. I might still get the audiolink just for the ipod, but my question is whether I can also use the tape/md port and the "auxmod basic" for the sirius (and whether I have the cd changer port back there if I have the indash changer).

Thanks.

so... the basic question: bose with in dash changer: do I still have a CD changer port for the PIE maz/alp aux adapter? can I use that port AND the tape/md port used by auxmod basic?

Thanks to anyone with the "know"

djesto, you may have just saved my life, I just got off the phone with mazda who said:

1) there is no cd changer port
2) there is no tape/md port
3) that headunit is not ellible for ANY factory upgrades (such as tape/Md Phat)

so, they're wrong, and I can get the audiolink or the PIE and run it right into the port that doesn't exist? : ) then, by hitting the CD button twice, it changes over to the audiolink?

You've seriously saved me some stress, I'll be ordering a solution today if this is the case.

The PIE plugs into the CD-Changer port on the back of the head unit. All head units have the port whether used or not by the factory.

Try this idea: http://www.staticusers.net/rx-8/RX-8...n-iceLink.html

Yeah, I'm almost certainly going to bump up to one of these ipod solutions soon, right now I'm doing the auxmod for the tape/md and the PIE kit for the cd changer port, that way I can switch between sirius and ipod without having to unplug anything or use an external switch like the aux 3.

Thanks for the help.

should be doing the install this weekend if everything gets here.

You haven't had trouble with yours yet? It seems like a nice unit, but for the money, it better work everytime the way they say it does.
