the Show-Me Thread...

I'm looking at Spending $2000 on car audio. I'd like to see RX8 owners who have spent less than $2500 on Car audio post up pics of their results. I know my system will be pretty cool - nothing like scudrunner's or other full-custom systems...but it'll be clean, with custom built boxes, and removable for track days.

Well, nothing is really removable in my setup, but here it is anyway: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/installed-custom-stealth-sub-box-between-rear-seats-mp3-player-amp-38560/
...and yes, it did cost less than $2500 albeit it wasn't cheap by any means. :p

Hey Darin, what happened with the turbo Probe? did you sell it?

Upgraded the Bose as much as I can, with no complex or daring installs.
Stayed well under the 2500$ mark.

Will find a way to replace the 9” in the doors…

:D You remember that thing?

I sold it in October of 2003 - to a chap in Maryland. I don't miss it much...I miss the Miata more.

I LOVE your audio set - up...that is fantastic. How's it sound? yeah - very subjective question I know...care to drive up to Tacoma so I can hear it? lol!

Of course I do. That was quite a machine back in it's time.

I miss my PGT actually - wish I could have kept it. Would be a cool project car - it was 10 years old and in really good shape when I sold it.

Sounds pretty good, I like it a lot. The bass is not earth-shattering but I wasn't looking for that anyway, just some good fill.
Regarding Tacoma, well, actually right now I'm sitting in Federal Way, not very far away from Tacoma - but I flew in and didn't drive the RX-8

My setup is here. The 2 10" subs box is gone. I went with 4080's custom 1 10" box, a JL audio W6v2 10", JL audio 500/1 amp, 1/2 farad cap. The bass is good and upgraded all the other speakers. Dynamat in the trunk and doors.
A rough estimate of price is around $1500.

So is mine... The quote I received was $1700 + tax...

My requirements:

Versitle: I listen to a broad range of music; Country to Jazz to Techno to Top 40 to R&B to Gospel and more. While I value over-all sound quality, I do like my music to 'slam' on occasion...especially after work, on Friday.

Accessable: I want to be able to reach all amplifier adjustments without practicing yoga. I am not a small man.

Removable: I'd like to be able to remove the subs, at least, in less than 30 minutes for the occasional track day.

Thank you TRU681, Rotary, and Scud for your pics! :D

The 'less Expensive' series...lol

:D

The installer believes only one other amp works as well with line-level inputs; JL Audio...however, JL's adapter is much more money.

Regardless, Zapco makes great high end amps!I'm sure you'll be happy with them.

I recommend the LOCB.2 instead of a line converter.

Me too - I have been out of Car audio since...the early 1990s. Back when Soundstream 'was' soundstream and made good stuff. Zapco has been around awhile and are much more into 'go' than 'show' - if you know what I mean.

:D

I'll be sure to post all the pics, etc...and impressions after things are complete.

Soundstream & PPI made great stuff back in their days until DEi bought both of them out. Then their quality went downhill!
