Shock/Vibration car security

I just recently had my brand new wheels and tires (with wheel locks) stolen in the middle of the night from in front of my house. I never heard the thieves and they caused body damage cranking the car up on rocks/bricks to teeter/totter the wheels off. If you want to see the gory pictures there is a thread up in General. I'm getting the car repaired and the wheels replaced, but I'm pretty security conscious now and never want this to happen again. Can you recommend a good security system that has vibration detection or good proximity detection that would prevent this from happening again in the future.

here's the alarm shock sensor that mysql mentioned. It should set off the alarm which will give you time to grab the 12 gauge

I know that your thread has already prompted a buddy of mine to pick up that shock sensor as he just installed new Volks on his car which also stays outside.
I know that doesn't fix your car or bring back your wheels but a travesty like this sure helps bring awareness

I use a two way alarm that's manufactured by AutoPage. It's no the best but it works. It was also advertised up to a 1/4 mile range.

Possibly something like this: http://www.viper.com/Products/Produc...?ProductID=107

What a 2 way alarm does is that the remote will start going off if someone touches your car. It has a pretty nice range but sometimes can get annoying if a truck a a loud car passes by.

Is this an OEM Mazda part? The car is going to be at the dealers soon for body work to repair the body damage from the theft, so I could just have them install the piece. Otherwise I will order this immediately.

YUP, that's an OEM part. The dealership might want to charge you an hour of labor though, looks like a quick 15 minute install.

You can also turn up the sensetivity on it and it sounds like it's pretty sensitive. One owner turned it to max and the alarm when off when his kid tried to open the door (it was locked) He also reported that tapping the front lights also set it off.

I'm sure if someone tried to jack the car up, it would go off. I will be testing that theory as soon as my buddy installs his.
As long as you don't get a bunch of thunder storms, etc you should be fine. Otherwise your neighbors might hate you

I have the shock sensor and I turn it all the way down (disabled). The thing is way too sensitive. At least mine is. I got sick of the false alarms especially when parked in a public places. It gets embarrassing.
