Shift **** wearing out :(

So my shift **** has a small patch where the plastic seems to be discolored. It seems as if a coating has worn off. The car is only a couple years old with just under 30k miles. I don't think this would be something Mazda would take care of for me...even if I bitch a lot. Anybody have any ideas of what my best plan of attack might be?

-Bitch to Mazda
-Replace with new OEM ****
-Replace with aftermarket ****

I have the same problem with mine, but then again, I shouldn't be leaving my hands on the shift **** at the light so that is probably the problem.

This has happened to many, including myself during my first year of ownership. My dealership replaced it with a new one gratis...

If you go with a Voodoo ****, get the pearl finish. It will look better over time. I got the spun look, and now it looks pretty thrashed. You might aslo need to get a small cover for it, they get very hot, too hot to touch.

they can be custom embroidered, and work well when the **** is hot.

This is silly... first get a **** with a finish that burns your hand in the summer and freezes it in the winter - then put a cover on it to fix these issues.

Lol. It's not that bad. The cover just keeps the sun off it so it doesn't superheat. It gets over 100 here and I don't have a cover for my voodoo. It does get hot but not unbearable. It's aluminum so it has a low thermal mass and the temperature moderates quickly as you're touching it. Not really a problem.

I have the same thing.

Im pretty sure im going to get an exact stock replica machined out of aluminum, and brushed, along with a gloss enamel.

I love the look of the shifter, but if it was aluminum, it would look soooo much better.

Good to know. I'm taking my 8 in soon for the gas tank and ball joint recalls. I will mention it then...hopefully my dealer will be as accomodating and I can get new one. I really like the look and feel of the stock ****...just wish it didn't look like it had 200,000 miles on it.

Mine, too (first noticed it at 45,000 miles). But my dealer has already sprung for $1000s in warranty work (yeah, I know, Mazda pays for it!). That pearl VooDoo at $37.95 looks like a gorgeous bargain.

Delaer replaced mine under warranty at about 5,000 miles. Seems like the original one was silver colored plastic, but the replacement is metal, so no more problems. Although it does get hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
