Sat radio

I know, do a search but i can't make heads or tails so i am going to try to simplify it for anyone willing to answer. I want to put Sirius in my nonbose 04. I heard a simple plugin with a fm modulator gives crappy sound. i see the Sirius kits at Walmart and assume that is what they are. How in the hell do I install Sirius Sat radio in my car? What all exactly do i need? Any help? Wife says I can do it for Father's Day.

i second this method... i did it and it sounds great.

you could also figure a way to upgrade to the latest version of the radio and have the dealer install sirius for you. i'm not sure if anyone has done it yet, but it's possible.

Installing the SAT Radio isn't that hard. I got a mount from ProClip for my RX8 and I have the antenna inside the car and sof far so good. Just take your time to hide the wires and like the other people have mentionedit sounds best with a direct connection.

So let me see if I am close to being on track. Buy this tuner kit on the link and instead of using the fm modulator that comes with it by the pie and connect this same kit to the HU using the pie? Correct or am I still a Sat dumbass?

Do you have pics of the install with the antenna in the car?

I just bought the Starmate for Sirius Sunday and have been using the FM modulator and have gotten great sound!!! I guess it depends where you are, but in Indianapolis, the FM mod works great and is the most cost efficient method. Now where to mount it, well that is another issue...

Where did you mount it and by any chance did you have luck putting the antenna in the rear deck vs outside the car on the trunk? I think i am going to go with the FM modulator for now and if it doesn't work I can change it out. Pics would be great of your setup.

Works just fine with the base radio - as long your firmware is at 9.55 or above. To check that, turn on the radio, press and hold down the "TEXT" button and press the preset "1" button. Your display will show your head unit's firmware version. If yours is under 9.55, get it upgraded at www.mazdaparts.com for $50.

The PIE provides an auxiliary signal source input to the head unit. That's all you need.

I talked to mazdaparts.com and they said the pieces are on backorder for about a month. Do you know of any other places to purchase them.

It pretty hard to beat the P.I.E and its associated RCA adapter for maz/pc alp. Works great! Also if you want multiple inputs (sat radio, iPod, phone handsfree, etc.) consider a SoundGate AUX3 ($40 if you search the Internet) or something similar in front of the PIE RCA adapter.

Bmcc,

The starmate will fit in the stock ashtray area, no problem. I had the antenna in the trunk but was having issues, so i put it on one of the child seat anchors in the back window area and have max satellite signal. I like the starmate, because it is extremely portable, as I use this at work, as well, since we can not use the internet to listen to the radio.

Silly question but how do you get the Starmate in the ashtray? I can slide out the little trash compartment but what about the other side with the cig lighter? I am thinging of taking my Sportster and putting it in my wife's Map comparment of her 6 and putting the Starmate in the ashtray as you suggested.
