Sat button

Was considering adding sat radio and after searching the subject checked my 05 and did'nt find a sat button on my head unit,or any mention of it in the owners manual. So what should I do?or for that matter where is the sat button? This radio deal along with Sat radio is a real pain.

I'm in the same boat - 2005 with no SAT button. Ticks me off, too - since this is one of the few differeneces between an 04 and 05. Just check out the 05 RX-8 brochure and the SAT button is prominently displayed in pictures of the center console. Seems a bit misleading - Mazda, misleading, no, couldn't be....

I plan on asking my dealer about how they plan on handling this when I bring it in for my first service sometime in Feb.

I want them to replace the HU with the Satellite ready radio at no charge to me. Somehow, I think I will be disappointed.

I checked the spec sheet on mazda's web site and it clearly says sat radio standard eqiupment.Thats one of the selling points as far as I was concerned, and you just can'nt replace the dam odd shaped hu,and was told if I did the it would void the waranty. What kind of odd ball crap is this???????This radio is a poor sounding piece of junk anyway and to have to deal with this is unreal.

First thing I did was change out the rear speakers and I hopefully will change out the fronts soon.

The speakers are the biggest piece of junk. I replaced rear speakers with some relatively inexpensive Fosgate's - the difference in sound quality is amazing. I actually have some bass response!!

So, I think the HU is ok (not great) - it's the speakers that really suck.

There's a good thread with pix on changing out the rear speakers if you decide to go that route (you'll need to search for the thread) - I recommend that as your first step.

Sirius is an option but it requires SAT-ready HU. For some reason, not all 05's come with that HU.

That's the point. Does the fact that some 05's come with the SAT button and others don't mean that those without the button now have to pay an additonal charge to get the "upgrade"? That's my concern - I emailed MNAO and they implied that I need to work it out with my dealer. And the dealer would set the price.

How is that logical or an equitable solution if I have to pay extra to have something that should have been standard equipment in my car??

Check it....just sayin'....maybe you have some other '04 components you don't even know about that could cause the car to self destruct....(cue theme from mission impossible)

At least it has the 05 white paint,if you replace the cheap radio with an aftermarket one,but since mazda put in a radio that is intergraded and odd shaped,I want the correct radio thank you very much.

How does that age old disclaimer go? Something like this: "Mazda North America reserves the right to change product specifications at any time without incurring obligations."

It sucks, but they cover their a$$es in their literature and you did not challenge it prior to delivery, so unfortunately I think you are on the wrong end of this short stick. It is by all rights legalized fraud because they can point to their little legal disclaimers and get away with murder. Sucks to be the consumer these days.

Mr. Phelps your mission today is to sell as many 2004 RX-8's and pass them off as 2005 RX-8's. The stupid consumers will never notice that their radios are not Satellite radio ready.

If you are caught will we, of course, disavow any knowledge of your activities.

Ingenious plan!!!

Damn, I've been caught in another scam. You would have thought I would have learned to be more cautious after I lost my life's savings when I sent all my money to that attorney in Nigeria who promised me millions.

I wonder about that....just because they write a disclaimer doesn't mean they can have a blanket authority to make spec changes. Where would it end? Could they swap out the rotary with a 1.3L 4 cylinder - it's sitll 1.3L, right?

There's got to be a reasonable expectation by the consumer that they will be purchasing a vehicle that is effectively what was promised in the advertising. I think a shrewd lawyer could make a pretty good case...

Guys! I know it's late but go back and read the link I posted. To me it says that Mazda will replace the HU for $0.

Yes, it's late (or early, depending on your point of view).

I have seen that Mazda notice that your link points to. But my email response from Mazda on the subject indicates that I will have to pay for the "upgrade".

Sounds like I'm in store for one of those pissing wars with my dealer....

Well, I'm stuck with my lowly '04 ( ) so this discussion is purely academic for me.

Best of luck!

Well the point is and will be, does one do the correct thing or not?At least I have done buisness with my dealership the last 10 yrs.and this isn't the first car from them. They have been good about things in the past and I did ask about issue before I bought the car(it is the weak point of the car). Why one would put in a sub par radio and then make it an odd shape that as of today has no aftermarket kit,is a mystery. What the hell were they thinking?????

I have 1 of the initial 05's.
I do not have a SAT ready radio.
I am currently working with Mazda customer service on this issue.
There was a delay for this radio and thus some early 05's do not have it.
Mazda should replace it IMHO.
They have not said no.. but have not said yes.
You have to love the waiting game..

'04 with a '05 HU

I just purchased my 8 on 2/4/05. The night I picked it up the lights on the HU wouldn't turn on. Took the car back a few days later and they fixed the problem. For some reason I now have a '04 with a SAT button. Can I just add the Sirius Antenna and should everything work? Is there any change in the display above the HU? Thanks for any help...

The only change from 04' to 05' is the AM button is combined w/FM and the SAT button is in its place.
The dealer would have to replace the HU with the face panel or when you push the SAT button you switch to AM.
If they exchanged the radio with the face panel, then you could buy the satellite kit (hide away module, wire harness & antenna) and have Sirius.

So if I press the SAT button and it switches to AM it would seem from what you said they only replaced the face panel? That makes me kinda upset they would change the face panel to the wrong panel on my first trip to the dealership. I have the 6 disc changer but the new panel doesn't state it like the old one did.

Are the lights also in the face panel or the HU? Thanks....
