resetting Nav Screen open/close mechanism

I've just finished installing my Lilliput screen into the existing nav screen holder, everything went well until I came to reinstall everything back into the car. I hooked all the wiring up and the open/close and tilt buttons don't work correctly.

The tilt button doesn't functon at all and the open/close button only closes the screen if I manually move the screen to anywhere between fully just open and about half open/closed.

It will not open the screen when it is fully closed - just moves slightly.

How do I go about resetting this? Is it a big job?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give...

To give a little more info on this:

When screen is fully closed - There is a noise from the motor for a second (as though it's attempting to open) when open button pressed but it doesn't move.

When screen is opened manually anywhere between slightly open and halfway open - screen closes fully when open button pressed.

When Screen is manually opened fully - Screen closes slightly when open button is pressed. Pressing it again has no effect and screen has to be manually moved to about halfway open at which point, pressing open again fully closes it.

just speculation here, but it sounds like it's of its track sort of like a window might be. maybe just try taking it out and putting it back in. make sure you aren't forgetting to attach something.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just tried reconnecting the screen housing to the car on its own without the holder to see what the motor does. It spins for a couple of seconds when you press the open button but does nothing when you press it again unless you manually turn the cog slightly. in either direction.

Ok, panic over, managd to get it working again. Found these excellent instructions on recalibrating the open/close motor in another post:

I found the easiest way to fix this without painstakingly trying it literally one gear tooth at a time is to take it apart and take the back cover off the screen (the curved piece). Unplug the three wire (orange and 2 grey) connector from the gear and power it up (no need to put it back together yet) press the open button a few times until the gear turns more than just a single "click". Wait until it stops turning and then put the white connector back in. Now press the open button a few times and it should spin the full range and stop properly. The last time you press open, take notice of the black gear outside the rest of the screen housing. If the gear spins clockwise and stops, the screen is in the up position. Put it back together with the screen all the way up now WITHOUT letting that gear spin, or else it will throw off the voltage on the trimpot and you'll have to start over. Hope this helps!
Only problem now is trying to re-assemble the whole unit without making the gear turn. I've had to recalibrate it twice now because of this, it's very fiddly but at least it is working.

the other thing you can do is remove the black gear/cog and reinstall the swiveling pod without it. there will be nothing to hold the screen up so power it up and press the open button so it would be all the way open or closed, then just stick the black gear back in from the side. I think I have more detailed instructions in the Apple Carputer Install thread

Hey guys I know this is an old post so I hope I put this reply in the right place. So I'm new to the rx8 scene and I'm new member here. I have the 04 6 speed M/T model very nice car. I also have the 04 auto (bought it not running) just for parts. I have been here quite often to get ideas on issues an mods. My current project is fitting the nexus 7 into the housing. I have got it all wired and working on my bench tester thanks to this forum but I'm facing an issue with calibration. So the method or removing the plug from within the screen housing with the 2 grey and one orange wire works fine to recalibrate the motor however I notice if I remove the power and try again I have to calibrate again. Is this normal or am I just missing something? Any input will help. I have a few other mods I intend to do like the RFID press to start system and underglow lights. I may do more electrical mods but not too sure yet.

This thread has a ton of info, I remember reading it when I was considering doing it.

.

first off. I’ve been a member on here for 6 months and I still can’t post a new thread that’s bullshit. Any what’s tho I was driving my car and all of a sudden my screen go to half way closed and turns off I’m assuming my negative wire came un done
But I’m not sure just seeing if anyone else had the same issue. Also the buttons work to open and close it. But tilt won’t work

By far the best explanation resetting navigation calibration!

I love when a community comes together! Thank you!
