RERUN: PnP Aux-In Solution!! with PIE Alpine Adapter
revisit.
Since this was a great forum, and the most valuable resource I have ever had, I thought this now closed thread ought to be bumped. A lot of you newcomers need to seek this thread out and thanks to the folks like Thew who finally figured out all the details in how to successfully hook up an Ipod, or any other audio device directly through RCA inputs through to ANY head unit. Since I've been off line for awhile, and Thew seems to be MIA, I can only imagine the BS that's been going on, and what got that thread closed.
In any case, if you are seeking out info on a way to hook up an external audio device to your headunit, seek out the first thread under this title minus the Rerun: title, and you will find where to buy a relatively cheap, very usable connector, which can be used in conjunction with other products out there (like the Dennison Icelink) or as a stand alone - the way I do. And it works great, sounds much better than modulation, etc etc.
And there is someone OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF HIS HEART can upgrade your head unit if it is an older versdion.(earlier than version 9.55) so read up. And to the mods, !

I second the thoughts expressed above...being one of the forum members that Thew personally helped upgrade my HU and my Nav system. His being banned from this forum is a terrible loss for all of the RX8 Club members.

Head Units
There is a way to figure out what version your head unit is. (do a search to find it). If it is earler than 9.55, most hookups through the available open connection on the backside of your headunit will not support using anything, as it needs to have a "handshake" of sorts for the port to remain active. Versions of 9.55 and up will allow you to hook up a device through this existing port without delivering a handshake signal.

I tried installing the PIE adapter today, but I can't find a way to put the adapter behind the radio. I tried putting the adapter in the empty tape slot, but the rca adapter wire seems to block the radio from being pushed back in. Can anyone that's installed this that has the 6cd changer please let me know where to put the adapter and how to route the wires.

I have the cable plugged into the back of the radio and routed correctly through the cable routing "half-moon" at the back-bottom of the radio and that is attached to the PIE module that is stored in the empty tape deck slot. The problem is that rca cable adapter that comes out of the other side of the pie module. That cable is preventing me from being able to reinstall the radio. I don't know where to rout that cable so it allows the radio to be inserted again.

no not there..
runt the cable out the back along the side and down to your ash tray area.. mount the PIE box in that hole.. under the Radio shelf. Not the Tape or mp3 hole.. under all of that.
